    Re: VFL Qualifying Final - Footscray Bulldogs v Williamstown Seagulls

    Got sick of being windblown so I moved to the terrace in front of the EJ stand for the second half. Much better atmosphere and some funny comments.

    Particularly liked the following;
    - "Come on Marcovic...pretend the ball is a donut" (after a clearly overweight Marcovic fails to get to the ball before his opponent)

    - "He's like Putin. He doesn't know where the boundary is" (after the boundary umpire calls out of bounds with a bulldogs player charging towards goal)
    I thought I was wrong once but I was mistaken.

      I miss those funny comments now that we play at Eithad.

        You don't appreciate watching from the stands what a buffeting the ruckmen take. The Williamstown ruckman wasn't tall but was built like a brick shithhouse and was giving it to Ayce. To my surprise Ayce was giving as good as he got which he would not have been capable of in previous years. It showed me that perhaps he's not a write-off for a career in AFL just yet. The fact he was able to handle the physical stuff and play so well (BOG IMO) gives cause for optimism.
        I sat with a mate, who has followed a lot of VFL and he told me before the game that Meese would exert physical pressure on Ayce. He suggested that Meese was a very good VFL ruckman despite being a shorter man.

        He also commented how well Ayce handled it with Williamstown changing their ruckman into the second half to try to curb the influence that Cordy had on the game.

          I'm glad 5,000 odd people got to see Ayce play on Sunday. He's been getting better and better all year. He also showed that "thing" that not everybody has - the ability to lift and lead a side. He's becoming a league level player. Handy tap ruckman in the making.

            Me too. The 'Barkly Street Boys' at Princes Park were a crack-up.

            Glen Jakovich was one of their favourites - "Your brother owes me money, Jakovich!"

              I reckon I know who would have said that....heard that exact comment said at the game at Etihad late in the day from a bloke who is....how should I say it.....quite vocal, in our bay.

                Meesey is a really good ruckman at VFL level, and a ruthless competitor. Its a real 'tick' for Ayce to have beaten a strong, physical & experienced player like Meese.

                  Happy days.
                  They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

                    Funny one but corny was the first minute of a game a player gets the ball and someone yells out " you haven't had a kick all day "
                    Bring back the biff

                        The same bloke kept going on about the need for Fotscray to play like socialists bringing the ball up the ground (share it around) and play like capitalists when it was in our forward 50 (individual glory).
