Thanks, interesting way they have done it - good read.

Also found the Champion Data list of the top 30 pretty interesting. Quite a few surprises in their list, which tends to support the depth of the draft.
Have you heard Butters wants to come to the Dogs?

I've been of the view for a while now that versatile players will be needed once the interchange rotations get capped and Vickers-Willis I see as a player who could play off a half back flank but also rotate through some midfield duties. He is also capable of playing on a range of taller or smaller opponents.

He is not the ideal player for us because I would have preferred a more genuine defender but he is a quality youngster who will find a way to be a productive player at the senior level.

Maynard is another player who I would consider and he could rotate of a HBF as well as being a solid midfielder.

If you kicked five goals and Tom Boyd kicked five goals, Tom Boyd kicked more goals than you.

Medium/Tall, made the AA team from Tassie. One of those blokes who'll probably be a 'how did he slip with the resume' late pick.

It's a bit more intriguing this year with all sorts of possibilities.
Leg speed needs to be addressed as does one key back type.
In a good spot though with the potential of a decent type falling out, and who is going to be first with
" can't believe he slipped to our pick". " We ranked him higher"

Champion Data stats help the causes of the TAC cup players vs those from other states, where the same level of stats (and the same level of fetail/accuracy) isn't applied.

What does everyone make of the late mail of Macartin being the number one pick? Seems to have some late last week.

Good news, really. If he'd slipped to 4 (what we might have gotten for Griffen), i'd have spewed up. McCartin going top two adds some justification to the Boyd deal.

It's a tough call to make for St. Kilda. Their midfield is terrible when you consider they list Armitage as one of their best players. Dunstan looks good but no match winner and at this stage Billings is more of a forward. Their only youngish A grade midfielder is Stevens.

Having said that, they've got an unproven cupboard of key forwards too. Lee hasn't come on and if they take McCartin it says to me they don't rate a kid they paid a high price for. They traded Stanley out and Spencer White is raw/unproven.

If next year's top end draft is predominately midfielders, it makes sense for them to go with McCartin. Either way - Melbourne are the big winners out of this. Petracca and Brayshaw would boost their midfield stocks significantly, whilst a Hogan/McCartin partnership would be dangerous.

                          Re: 2014 Phantom Draft Links.

So below is a little phantom draft of what i think may happen based on needs, especially in the first half of the first round. After that, as happens, one spanner in the works can stuff the whole thing. Usually goes best available once that happens after the first round.

Plenty of info around about the players so haven't gone into much detail, but a reason here and there

STK 1. Christian Petracca – Their midfield is still very young and lacks quality. Jack Steven is a RFA this year and there’s every chance he may leave. Tips the boats towards CP over PMc

MELB 2. Angus Brayshaw – Been linked to him all year. Genuine full-bodied mid to help with the additions of last two years

MELB 3. Jarrod Pickett –Speedy little rebounder/goal sneak to add to JKH and Salem for outside pace and disposal quality

GWS 4. Jake Lever – Level-headed leader for a team that will need it to move forward. Future captain.

COLL 5. Paddy McCartin – Best KP forward of the draft. A combination of he and Darcy Moore would be nasty in years to come

GWS 6. Jayden Laverde – Modern prototype half back/rebounder

GWS 7. Sam Durdin – KP player who could end up a mobile CHB/FB

GCFC 8. Peter Wright – Similar to a Kruezer type, but more mobile and front half ability

COLL 9. (the Magpies are committed to selecting father-son pick Darcy Moore)

GEEL 10. Hugh Goddard – Solid bodied KP defender to take over from their current mainstays

WCE 11. Lachie Weller – Silky mid with great vision and disposal skills

RICH 12. Liam Duggan – Mid/defender ready to play round 1

FRE 13. Jarrod Garlett – explosive pace, outside winger, goal sneak

ADEL 14. Paul Ahern – Natural footballer, can play anywhere in a support role in the front two thirds or perhaps a Rob Murphy role

GCFC 15. Nakia Cockatoo – One game in 18 months. The best time to pull out a superstar game. Kid could be hit or massive miss, but they’ve got talent to risk ##

NMFC 16. Jordan DeGoey – Compact, solid bodied mid who’s had a rise and game style not unlike Jack MacRae

ESS 17. Caleb Marchbank – Key defender who’s come back from injury but should help to fill the void left by Dusty when he retires in 2019

SYD 18. (the Swans are committed to selecting academy pick Issac Heeney)

CARL 19. Reece McKenzie – The only monster KP forward left in the draft. Will take a while to come on but is probably worth the pick here. ##

ESS 20. Kyle Langford – When he develops his body he’ll be a bull. Utility atm with plenty of promise.

STK 21. Dan McKenzie – Tested high in plenty of categories at the combine. Mid to add to their young brigade.

STK 22. Corey Ellis – Replacement for Sam Gilbert

GWS 23. Harrison Wigg – Small defender with one of the best kicking efficiencies of the draft.

GWS 24. (the Giants are committed to selecting academy pick Jack Steele)

NMFC 25. Connor Menadue – Fast, slightly built defender

WB 26. Ed Vickers-Willis – Smart defender-cum midfielder. Future leader.

                          WB 27. Toby McLean - Speedy mid/forward with a Howe-like leap

CARL 28. Oscar McDonald – KP defender, brother of Tom from Melbourne

GCFC 29. Alex Neal-Bullen – Another reliable rebounding defender

COLL 30. Dan Howe – Great modern sized third forward

HAW 31. Clem Smith – Byron Pickett-like enforcer. Disregard for his own safety, needs polish on decision making

WCE 32. Connor Blakey – Mature built utility midfielder from WA

RICH 33. Brayden Maynard – Built a bit like Petracca and can play anywhere now.

FRE 34. Blaine Boekhurst – Mature aged kid i saw a lot of in 2013. Outside runner from WA

ADEL 35. Tom Lamb – Talented kid but with some behavioural problems, could be one of the best picks of the draft he copes

NMFC 36. Lukas Webb – Probably my favourite/diamond of the draft. Wicked left foot, solid body, just needs to stay in games.

SYD 37. Touk Miller – Little leader, fast and nippy around stoppages.

SYD 38. (the Swans are committed to selecting academy pick Jack Hiscox)

WB 39. Dillon Viojo-Rainbow – Versatile midfielder to add disposal and pace to the side

MELB 40. Dan Nielson – Tall defender to help develop to emerging backline

                          ## Haven’t seen, based on industry/others opinon

Avoided being Bulldogs-biased. Have a few going a couple of picks before ours. Ultimately based on who should be available at our picks i'd like players such as Connor Menadue, Ed Vickers-Wills, Oscar McDonald, Lukas Webb, and later (after P40) a tall mobile KP fwd/def named Tyler Keitel. I would also liek us to pull the trigger on Pat McKenna from Gisborne at P46 and beat Hawthorn to the line by taking a risk.

Sounds like a taller version of Biggs/Darley, although his footskills as described are more safe than Darley-like.
