I don't know anything about Baulderstone, but dogs scouts watched Brett Eddy 3 times during the season and also conducted an interview with him during the season.

I thought the same thing the other day. I also thought Jordan Russell was older than 28. I thought he looked like a real leader in the backline in VFL. At least we'd know what we are getting.

He did seem to play more so full back, without the need to move around too much so perhaps a lack of mobility & speed might be the challenge. Talia and Austin and Fletcher seemed to play further from goals than Russell (could be my memory playing tricks though).

        No thanks to Jordan
He's had two cracks at it, and fell short.

Perkins isn't up to it, simply can't handle the running required at AFL level, could hardly handle the running required at VFL.

I personally think we'll rookie Mitch Jensen and Will Hayes. Hayes' running capabilities really impressed the club and I think he'll get a chance.

Russell may be a smokey, I know the club were really impressed with his leadership and the way he applied himself for the year. The fact he was captain of the VFL grand final team whilst a fit Marcovic couldn't get a start says a fair bit. His wise head could be invaluable for a year or two. Depends on the coach I guess.

What would Russell offer ? He was much maligned at Carlton and is list clogged material , which we still have number of them. see clubs like geelong , Hawks and collingwoof turn over their list. Jesse stringer and Taylor hunt even chapman moved on!

We've just turned over nearly a quarter of our list, not sure who on it you'd consider a list clogger at this point (possibly my least favourite term I've encountered in football) but I'd consider moving on Chapman no different to moving on Cross.
Not sure what Russell would offer but the profile of our list is very young, he was lauded for his leadership at Footscray this year which considering the issues that have cropped up over the off-season might be useful. His form was also pretty good. Not necessarily advocating it but you could make an argument.

I'd like to see Fort rookied. He's very raw and skinny but I think if we hadn't have had such good depth at ruck he would have played more. I liked what I saw of him.
I also like Will Hayes although lack of size may work against him.

Russell would offer leadership and experience. He was very good in the GF (except for a couple of kick-in blunders)

I don't doubt that JR provides leadership and experience. However, as noted above, he was much maligned at Carlton. He lasted one season at Collingwood.

His usefulness as a rookie selection? None, someone has to be on the LTI essentially for him to play any extended period.

His usefulness as a primary list selection? We've been through this before with Lower and Markovic to a certain extent. Mature bodies, with levels of experience, but lacking in other key areas to maintain an AFL standard.

If he was selected his position would be down back. Morris is there, Roughead is there and his place would be taking away from Roberts and Talia. When will these two get exposed to improve at AFL?

JR can provide leadership and experience at VFL level and around the club in general. If he's on the WB list we've just taken a step back from the trade period just completed.

I'm a no on Russell, he doesn't fit the age bracket of players we should be recruiting... We all know we are going to struggle over the next few years, but we need to fast track the younger players development during this time using the existing senior players as support.

Markovic was recruited as a key defender, he was 22 at the time. Does a player have to be 18 and drafted out of the TAC Cup to be anything other than a mature age top up? He wasn't a great player, but he finished top in our B&F in 2011, which is a better return than any of the other key defenders we've drafted in recent history eg Williams, Wight, Tiller, Mulligan.

Russell is a 188cm half back flanker, how is he going to be taking a place away from Talia or Roberts? If anything he'd be taking the place of Wood, Darley, or JJ, and after 3-7 years on an AFL list as a rebounding defender if you aren't an automatic by then, it's not because a mature aged pick up is keeping you out.

He has given AFL footy away to play for Noble Park. I doubt he could be talked around

So is your position that we should be looking at JR? Wood and JJ have shown vast improvement ofver the last 12-18 months. Darley gradual improvement in his first year here. Do you see JR in front or behind those players? If behind then i reinterate - what's the point of looking at him?
