    Re: 2015 Draft Watch

Another article on what we need.

Your club's draft needs and the young players it should chase

The Bulldogs recruiting manager Simon Dalrymple is on the record as saying they're on the hunt for versatile ruck/forward. That player may arrive in the form of Carlton's Matthew Kreuzer as a restricted free agent. The key defensive stocks could also do with some reinforcement and the Dogs have been linked to Jake Carlisle, a player who would cost them at least their first draft pick. The Dogs look set to add a sixth father/son recruit with Northern Knights midfielder Darcy MacPherson likely to land at the Whitten Oval for a late pick. A young, developing ruckman wouldn't go astray either. - Ryan Davidson

    First selection: Pick 11-19

Cal Twomey says: The Dogs have spoken about chasing a forward/ruckman, so 200cm Gippsland Power goalkicker Harry McKay would be a frontrunner if he is still on the board at the club's selection. If he's not, his identical twin brother Ben won't be selected too far behind and he kicked four goals on the weekend. None of the pure rucks are good enough to be first-round picks, so although that area of the list needs some depth they won't find it early at November's draft.

Harry McKay could be the extra tall goalkicker the Bulldogs require. Picture: AFL Media

Hopefully some of the safer options will appeal more to other clubs as the year continues and Burton remains out of sight, out of mind.

2 others I reckon may appeal to us and could still be available are Kieran Collins and Harry McKay.
Wonder if Cal peruses the site?

        SEN revised top 25

At the very top there is little change with Jacob Weitering and Josh Schache holding the first two positions with academy duo Callum Mills and Jacob Hopper following, whilst Darcy Parish has risen above South Australian Aaron Francis to complete the top 5.

Just outside the top 10 things have altered with a new trio barging into the top 15.

On the back of a patch of stellar form for the Knights, skipper Jade Gresham has jumped to No.12, whilst Wayne Milera’s form in the seniors at Central Districts sees him in at No.14.

Rounding off the trio is the bolter – Gippsland’s Ben McKay (brother of Harry), who starred at the weekend for the Power playing as a marking forward and booting four goals in tough conditions.

At the back end of the list, Bendigo’s Aidyn Johnson and Murray’s Clayton Oliver make their first appearances.

Johnson hasn’t played a game this season after injuring himself in the AFL Academy match against the Northern Blues at the MCG, but having analysed vision from his bottom-age year in 2014, he comfortably sits among the top group.

Oliver on the other hand has risen on the back of strong form for the Bushrangers as an inside midfielder, and his six goal haul on the weekend showed he has another string to his bow.

some big movers in this lot as we get into crunch time. This has been the most interesting top 25 so far. Such a lot of variety.

For a draft that is regarded as shallow I think most teams would be hopeful of snaring at least 2 quality players. As you have mentioned there are a variety of players pushing their names forward.

There's a ruckman at Sturt that's getting some noise, a bean pole named Parella. The knock is that he gets first hands on the ball all day, tapos it straight to the opposition, and cant take a mark.

Looks the goods, if he is like this every game I cant see him being available until our pick.

Saw both TAC games yesterday. Some very good players on display. I can see why Weitiering is regarded as a potential number one pick. 195cm defender who is mobile and strong plus he even went forward in the 2nd half and kicked a couple of goals.

Jayden Stephenson from Eastern cant be drafted this year or even next year but has played 3 good games when it counted and will be worth watching in the GF next week. Great balance, pace and kicking skills. When he adds some size to his frame he could be quite a player.

Did Clarke or Collins impress? They are 2 possibles for around our 1st pick.

Ryan Clarke was brilliant last week but not great yesterday. Dylan Clarke played well but I think you are asking about Ryan.
Collins started in the back line before moving forward for a period of time.
He is big and strong but he doesn't take the game on and chips the ball sideways rather than getting it moving quickly forward. He did better than OK.

Plenty of the Stingrays look promising types

Ryan seems to be the one that has people excited. Not sure he's for us though. Dylan v.talented but probably not this year?

Collins looks a chance. From limited vision I have seen, mobility may be the issue. Apparently Buckenara rates him very highly (top 5).
