That was such a sad moment. I'd imagine it would have been even sadder, watching it for the first time.
I only ever got to see the re-runs of MASH, so I kind of knew he left, but didn't know how.
It was a really poignant moment. MASH was such a great show. I didn't think that they could replace a character like Henry Blake but Sherman Potter was almost better. Being a real military guy he gave the show more of a war slant. They could go places with Potter that wouldn't have been possible with Blake.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.
The Red Wedding is burnt in my memory. Everything about that scene was just so well done. The way Walder just watched and continued his food was chilling.
Red Viper I was literally left gobsmacked and sat like that while the credits rolled. He was probably my favorite character at the time and was celebrating his victory until....pop.
Yep, I'm the same about both of those. If only the Red Viper just shut up and got the job done, he was my fav at the time too.

Shireen's death was hard to watch too.
The only thing fortunate about that was you didn't see her, the screams cut through me though, maybe that gave it more impact. I actually shed a few tears in that scene.

Harry Morgan must have made a positive impression as didnt he first appear as a wacko army major or something similar?
Adriana in the Sopranos was devastating, as was Wallace in The Wire.

Great call on Adriana. The show was good at making you like or try to like the gangsters, but that murder was cold hearted and plain sad.

Correct. He was a general. Total screwjob.
At one point he's performing an inspection on the unit, and Klinger comes marching across the compound in his best dress and hat, halts, and salutes. Quick as a flash Morgan's character says"Not now, Harriet, I'm inspecting the troops!"
That OR scene where Henry's death is announced wasn't in the original script. They had just wrapped up filming and the cast were about to go out and celebrate the end of the series, when the director dropped that scene on them. I remember Alan Alda talking about it in a Doco about the series.
