          My 2 cents is he's definitely dead but whether or not it stays that way is the question given the precedents in the show.

            Yep, I think he's dead. Which is not all that shocking as many 'big' characters in that show have been killed off.

            Is the show and the book at the same stage?

                  There have been a few on the Bill. That huge explosion that Des Tavinar caused killed Andrew Monroe and a bunch of others, Derek Conway on the drive by, Cathy Marshall drowned by some scrote. June Acland had all sorts of nutters come after her. One far out plot line had her serial killer/odepedian/sociopathic natural son turn up when he joins the force and gets posted to June's station. It could get a bit out there sometimes.
                  They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.
