Re: Maribyrnong River
Big shout out to the Aussie Army, the levy banks they are creating are going to save hopefully a heap of houses. Over 3km all up.
Ive been in Echuca the last couple of days helping my previous employers sandbag(the business backs up to the Campaspe and it's a bit of a losing battle sadly) its going to devastate the port area."Footscray people are incredible people; so humble. I'm just so happy - ecstatic"Comment

Re: Maribyrnong River
If only there was some kind of readily available photographic evidence showing the water being held back from the natural flood plain and thus forced to find its way into different areas.
It's just a shame, what with the internet that we've got today, that one couldn't just type "racecourse flood wall" into Google and get instant results that show the flood wall stopping the water from flowing onto the flood plain."It's over. It's all over."Comment

The racecourse is over 150 years old and was there before people started building on flood plains.FFC: Established 1883

But who is to say what the right course of action was? If the wall wasn't build and there were no races what would become of our valuable gambling industry? What damage would those lost gamblers inflict on unsuspecting towns across the nation? Maybe those home owners should have just built their own wall?[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]Comment

Re: Maribyrnong River
This is a weird hill you're choosing to die on.
For fairness sake there's probably some truth to your supposition - but there isn't a continuous block of concrete under the ground that's stopping water from being absorbed.
This is against an actual wall, scientifically designed to keep water off the flood plain. One that they were warned about what the flow on effect would be.
It's ludicrous for you to make your supposition whilst ignoring the actual fact right in front of you.
I respect that you stand your ground but you're being crazy here and I can't work out why."It's over. It's all over."Comment
