Watched Inglourious Basterds on DVD a few nights back. Tarantino is a lunatic but also an absolute genius. Typical over the top violence, over the top characters and a plot full of holes. However, it is also intelligent, witty and confronting and I highly recommend it.

Just about movie of the year, for mine.

When Tarantino gets it right (Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, IB), he's the most entertaining director in Hollywood.
Our 1954 premiership players are our heroes, and it has to be said that Charlie was their hero.

It was good, but doesn't reach the heights of his best, IMO.

When has he gone wrong? Admittedly I haven't seen Death Proof, but every other film he has directed has been a winner imo.
Have you heard Butters wants to come to the Dogs?

Death Proof is good value also. It's his attempt at early slasher style flick (his words, not mine) so has low production values and shaky camera work, but as usual, he pulls it off.

It looked cool and had some rad stunt work, but it was a mess of a movie. Planet Terror was easily the better half of Grindhouse.

I haven't finished watching Inglorious Basterds but im a fan of his work and will finish it soon as its brilliant.

I agree Kill Bill 1&2 are good movies..but not his best when you compare them to masterpieces like Reservoir Dogs & Pulp Fiction.

From what I have seen its a movie about the SAfers winning the WC in SA? Not sure its great material or film worthy considering there is a lot of innuendo about food poisoning suffered by the opposition NZ pre-final.

I've read that it's more about Mandela, and his belief that winning the WC was something which would unite the country post-Apartheid. The actual rugby game is supposedly the low point of the film...

The Hurt Locker is not released in Australia yet (from memory, it comes out on the 4/2/2010). All the anti-piracy ads say "What are you really burning?". I was referring to that

Agreed, although I would also throw Jackie Brown into your list of top-shelf Tarantino films. Probably his most under-rated film but right up there with some of his best work IMO.
