    Comedians

Just bought tickets for Carl Barron at the Palais theatre thought a thread could be worthwhile.

Who have you seen, who do you like, and who do you hate.

I've seen Arj Barker (okay), Lano and Woodley (Excellent), Frank Woodley (good but better in a duo), Steven K Amos (ok), Jimeoin (poor), Ross Noble (long winded but hilarious) and some random guy from Perth.

I obviously like all the above, and would love to see Ricky Gervais do an Aussie tour.

And as for comedians I hate, Judith Lucy is the first of a long list to spring to mind.
I should leave it alone but you're not right

Russell Peters is worth seeing. His ability to explain how he tried to stand up to his Indian father as a child is quite funny.

Showing my age but I found Tommy Cooper absolutley hilarious when I was a child.
Billy Connolly and Dave Allan also have given me a great laugh.
Im not sexist but just cant seem to find a female comedian who is naturally funny without coming across as scripted.

I loved Arj a few yers ago.

I still love Jason Byrne (HILARIOUS), David O'Doherty and Demetri Martin.
I also think Josh Thomas is adorable, and quite amusing with his rambling.

I was lucky enough to work in London for a company that managed several of the UK's leading comedians.

One perk of the job, was going to shows for free.

          My favourites were

          Al Murray
          Mighty Boosh
          Frank Skinner
          Danny Bhoy

My favourite Australian comedians are Dave Hughes and Carl Barron

Soupaman: I also have tickets for a Saturday night in April (doggies aren't playing thankfully) looking forward to it, and hopefully new stuff, i've watched his dvds too many times haha "Ohhhhhh FIIIIFIIIIIIIIIII"

Same as Sophie with Jason Bryne, saw him at the comedy festival last year, hilarious. Also saw Russell Brand, he's a love or hate kinda guy..he provided me a fit of laughter at Rod Laver.

Big fan of Arj Barker, Jimmy Carr (live show is great, has the weirdest laugh ever), Russell Peters, Eddie Murphy, Chris Rock (In small doses), Dave Chapelle.

Not trying to be sexist but I find it hard to laugh at female comedians, they irritate me. Judith Lucy being the first followed by Corrine Grant, cannot stand either of them.

                  Re: Comedians

As many here will know, I'm a massive fan of Monty Python. University educated, highly intelligent, and very, very silly. Great writing, great comic performances, timing, you name it. I could talk about them all day. John Cleese has created some of the funniest things going. Fawlty Towers still makes me laugh, even after a zillion viewings. For more old school, Peter Cook was very funny. His work with Dudley Moore as "Derek and Clive", whilst somewhat an acquired taste, could be hilarious (and revolting at the same time!). Obviously British humour is my fave....

More recently, I think Arj Barker is alright, and laugh at Demetri Martin. A mate put onto Little Britain, which I get a laugh out of. Steven Wright is good, that deadpan is just great. Billy Connolly I just don't get the appeal, the constant swearing gets on my nerves, and whilst it's pretty shallow, his accent/voice is grating. Russell Brand is kind of intelligently weird, but I think I'd want to punch him if I spent too long in his company.

He would be the loud one on the gala who always just does stupid stuff with audience members yeah? I don't enjoy him, but I've heard his proper stand up is good.

Am a fan of David O'Doherty, but not sure I could stand a whole set of his stuff.

Love the Mighty Boosh, but from what I've seen I'm not convinced that they are stand up funny. I feel a lot of their tv show is predictable and a bit lame, and what I've seen of their standup has all been along those lines.

Almost everyone I know isn't a big fan of female comedians. This isn't to say they can't be good, it's just there are very few good ones out there. Cal Wilson is pretty good, and Hannah Gadsby (the lesbian with the massive hips) is pretty good, but otherwise they seem to rely too much on the same topics.

Mostly they seem to whinge, too often about their husbands and family (Fiona O'Loughlin), or how lame they are (Fiona O'Loughlin), or how they drink too much (Fiona O'Loughlin) and more things of that nature. Their stories tend to be uninteresting to me (an early 20's male) and they don't tend to do observational comedy too much. Plus the general style of comedians like Judith Lucy, Corinne Grant and numerous others I can't name at the moment doesn't really make me like them enough to lwant to laugh with them.

I suggest Boosh fans check out 'The Big Fat Quiz Of The Year' from 2008 and 2010, they can be found on Youtube. It's a UK quiz show hosted by Jimmy Carr with topics of the year, celebrities play in teams. Noel Fielding is quite hilarious teamed up with Russell Brand in 2008

I don't really like female comedians much at all. I can't even think of one that I actually like. Claire Hooper and Corrine Grant are awful. As well as Fiona O' Loughlin. I can't say I like Cal Wilson much, either.

Seriously, Fiona, no one else gives a s*** about your children.

Oh I forgot that I quite like Wil Anderson. But hate Dave Hughes.

It's been awhile since I saw any comedians live, but I loved Steven Wright - love his way of looking at things. Hale & Pace were very funny too, although that was 17 years ago!! Billy Connelly was ok, but I missed a lot of what he said due to finding it hard to understand him.

The last one I saw was the Little Britain stage show - excellent!!

I'm in the process of organising tickets to see Barry Morgan from Barry Morgan's World of Organs at the Melbourne Comedy Festival. Has anyone seen this man? Saw him on Spicks & Specks last year - he is hilarious.

As for female comedians - Rita Rudner is very funny. Would love to see her live.
