8 episodes. Last one aired tonight.

Loved the sniper. A man of his word.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

I had a psychological/physical reaction to the searching, took me to a moment in time to a past life. Very well expressed TV.

Nice to see Rust expressing a slightly more positive view on life with the last line of the side/series.

I have to be honest - I was a little disappointed with the denouement of the show.

I felt like the reveal was rushed (I'm just going to look at this exact photo and make the exact connection that we've been missing all along). I would've preferred the unravelling of the clues that led to the killer to take a little longer (maybe into a 9th episode).

I don't mind a little mystery, I don't think every secret needs to be revealed, but it bugged the hell out of me when Rust said "this is the place" and we were given no indication as to why - I think that was the perfect time to make some kind of reveal for the viewer.

I'm not so sure about the happy endings for everyone resolution. It felt a bit like I was watching Return of the King again. Rust was effectively a moral nihlist, and I would've preferred that he either a) died or b) woken from his coma without being almost effectively born again.

That being said: it was still a better episode than 98% of what else is on offer.

Also, the entrance and journey through Carcosa. Man that was tense.

Overall loved the show. 9/10 would watch again.

I was a little apprehensive to say everything you just said. I was hoping for the last 10 minutes to be massive, something like both killed, but as you say it was TV acting that for me raised the bar.

I think it will be the type of ending that will stand a few rewatchings. I kind of like that they didnt explain everything. It means we can go back and watch it again knowing that not everything wraps into one tight little bundle and making our own minds up about what is happening.

So many questions still to answer.

I've already seen the first four or five again. And I don't have Foxtel.

Yep. Upon reflection of your earlier post re 're-watching and picking different things up', I reckon you'll be right. I don't generally go back to a show this quick, but it's entrancing TV. Without surprises, are you seeing things differently (etc)?

I had 24 hours to kill on a flight to London on Saturday, and I was lucky enough to have the entire series of True Detective as part of the in-flight entertainment (Emirates). Not having seen it when it aired earlier this year, I found it gripping and completely immersive - made my flight go very quickly. All the lead actors were outstanding, the writing was top shelf and the cinematography was brilliant. I can't wait to watch the entire series again on the flight back to Melbourne.

Series 1 was excellent viewing. Will be interesting to see if the second series meets the same standard.
