I don't mind that all the characters seem beyond redemption. Like Rocco said a smile every now and then would be nice.

Now they have established the characters the story should flow. First ep was a bit cartoonish, lots of close up of faces with various expressions that could have had thought bubbles

That mo deserves a characters name and caravan of its own.

Ray Velcoro and his ever faithful companion, jimmy the mo, walked into the bar. "If I shouldn't get drunk and hit a stranger with a bar stool then speak up now little moustache" Ray said. As always jimmy kept his own counsel and said nothing but bristled at the thought of a fight.

i reckon that one reason it's been harder to war mto this season is that with more characters it's been harder to focus on and build a relationship wig them, compared to Marty and Cole who we were with one of the entire series. I still don't know the main characters names. IF Farrel is gone that may help with that, but he is credited on the whole season. Could be flashbacks though

Agree 100%, I'm hoping this streamlines it a bit. The seasons credit could just be a ruse. I said to my wife, it's a metaphor for his Career, that just when you think he will cement his career it dies.

There's images online of him in other scenes not yet shown - hell, they're even on Foxtel at the end of each episode when they tell us when the next ep is on. Velcoro lives.

Actually I think I know what this is. This is a fake hit. Ray is obviously connected with political power-somehow. They wanted the mob to think Ray was dead so it's all a set up.
