Re: Watson retires from Test cricket
He was certainly a test standard player but he never quite reached his potential. As a batsman he just didn't make enough centuries and too often gave his wicket away with overly ambitious shot selections. His bowling was quiet good but injuries often limited his performances.Western Bulldogs Football Club "Where it's cool to drool"Comment

Re: Watson retires from Test cricket
Good move to focus on short form cricket. Watson entered the IPL auction with a $400,000 reserve on his head. But walked away from the auction with $1,980,000.
Don't you hate auctioneers who under quote and you waste your Saturday bidding on something you couldn't ever really afford. And dumb-y bidders of course.Rocket Science: the epitaph for the Beveridge era - whenever it ends - reading 'Here lies a team that could beat anyone on its day, but seldom did when it mattered most'. 15/7/2023Comment

Re: Watson retires from Test cricket
I thought Warnie got over $2M? Good on him I say, but not sure why he attracts that kind of money. But his hundred vs India in the last 20/20 was great timing.Rocket Science: the epitaph for the Beveridge era - whenever it ends - reading 'Here lies a team that could beat anyone on its day, but seldom did when it mattered most'. 15/7/2023Comment

Re: Watson retires from Test cricket
Yeah he did, but his overall salary wasn't as high. Back then he got IPL plus Aust contract, whereas Watson and the others now get Aust contract, IPL, Big Bash and all the T20 franchises (Watson will be playing domestic T20 for Islamabad in Pakistan later this month prior to IPL).Comment

Re: Watson retires from Test cricket
I get frustrated knowing that due to its length cricket is a game that will never attract the best or most coordinated players.
But Watson's almost the perfect 20-20 player. Gun bat, gun bowl to the extent the format allows.
Good luck to him.TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.Comment

He's also won the IPL MVP twice, he's the only player to do it. Not surprised by his auction price.Western Bulldogs: We exist to win premiershipsComment

Much like when Clarke retired, I wonder how former team mates, or CA types like Patty or even Mickey Arthur, will react and make comments publicly.Rocket Science: the epitaph for the Beveridge era - whenever it ends - reading 'Here lies a team that could beat anyone on its day, but seldom did when it mattered most'. 15/7/2023Comment
