It's a shame because from all accounts it was a great card of highly skilled and technical combat.
Honestly it's the culmination of the last few years hype train. When I first started watching (I had an onion tied to my belt) the ability to talk your way into a big fight was nothing like it is now.

I'm not surprised really at Khabib and co losing their minds. It's easier enough for Conor and co to talk trash and hype up fights against people who are willing to wear trash talk for what it is, but the chickens came home to roost with Khabib.

I'm not saying he's in the right for doing it (he's clearly not) but you don't have your finger on the pulse if you think a Dagestani Muslim is going to accept you slating his family and his religion as trash talk.

I hope this is a tipping point for UFC, but it won't be.

I'm a big MMA fan but the UFC made their bed. McGregor wasn't punished for the bus incident and the company literally used it as promotional material.

I really liked Rener Gracie's point on Facebook. Why do we dismiss everything leading up to the fight as hype and then slam the guy for retaliating?

Ferguson v Pettis bloodbath was also spectacular...Ferguson is a weird unit.

Before the Lewis fight, I said to a mate that the beauty of heavyweight fights is you can be down 2 rounds, getting beaten in the 3rd and still win in the last 10 seconds. And then he did that. Crazy stuff!

Did McGregor's camp so the trash talking or McGregor himself?

It was mostly McGregor, but Dillon Danis (Conor's Jiu Jitsu coach and the guy that Khabib jumped the fence to try and stomp on) also talked a lot a trash and just generally rubs everyone he meets the wrong way.

You've just got to take one look at his stupid top deck haircut and you know the kind of guy he is.

I legit thought he was Zayn from One Direction during Conor's walk-out.

Well, he strongly implied that Khabib's manager was responsible in 9/11 (really) and called him a "snitch terrorist rat", so yeah pretty much. It's virtually his entire brand to race bait his opponents into rage at this point.

How pleasant. In any respectable sport that should be grounds for sanction in itself. No excuses for what happened post bout, but the guy is a real wanker and as much as I don’t care for religion that’s beyond inexcusable.

It's funny, Danis aside (a relative new-comer to Connor's camp), his corner is as respectful as they come.

His coach John Kavanagh was talking about it this morning and his take was basically 'that's his thing, it's not my personality, but that's Connor'. And you can't argue with the results. Biggest star the sport's ever seen.

called him a 'backwards c***' for not drinking his whiskey, ( IIRC ) and McGregor knows perfectly well why he can't drink.
Laughed at all these MMA fighters wringing their hands "How can we become an Olympic sport like this?" until I just remembered beach volleyball is now an olympic sport. Go figure.
