    Big Bash League 2015

Was nice to have some cricket on a weekday last night and Channel 10 continue to do a very good job with the BBL.

Hussey looked in great touch but the biggest shame was how well Andre Russell bowled, he should be with the national side.

There are virtually games on every night for the next month or so lot's to talk about coming up.

I really don't go for the popcorn T20 stuff, but the Test series' this summer have been so poor through a combination of terrible pitches and even worse player performances, I actually find myself looking forward to having some decent contests to watch over the coming month.

      Re: Big Bash League 2015

I really love the Big Bash. I much prefer T20 to 50 over cricket although I will say that the 50 over game has improved markedly in quality over the last few seasons.

But T20 has all the drama and big hitting that I like to see. You get to see all the best players at a tournament, it prolonged the careers of some cricketers I really liked (Warne, Gilchrist, Hussey), it's all over inside a month and it's all on FTA TV.

I still think there will be a football version of T20.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

I'm off tonight to rAdelaide Oval to see Strikers vs whichever team Kevin Pieterson is playing for this year. Always a good nights entertainment.

The same team he played for last year.

That's an interesting comment TD. How would you see a T20 style AFL match working? I remember they tried 'lightning' matches one pre-season, but they were awful.

Shortened quarters, more attacking, more man on man contests, more scoring opportunities. All the best things about foot condensed into less time. Ive posted about it before, I'll see if I can find those posts.

Interesting. I wonder if a way to encourage faster movement, less congestion, more one on contests etc, would be to have less players on the ground?

What did everyone think of the one hand one bounce "catch" last night? Was he channeling Adam Crosthwaite?

That was one of the things I forgot to mention. Less players, run further with the ball-maybe remove bouncing altogether, last player to touch the ball before it goes OOB has a free payed against him,

Would you have two halves, maybe 20 minutes so you could call it 20/20 football, or four ten minute quarters? Maybe different goal posts, apart from injuries substitute players are only allowed at breaks.

Instead of frees for all OOB, what about ice hockey style perspex walls around the boundary, so the ball almost never goes out (except for a very high kick OOB)? Just continuous play until a score occurs. Seems in keeping with the concept.

Great idea. Would you need a cushioned wall to absorb the players momentum as they crashed into it.

Id also have a rule where if the ball bounces off the goal or point post and back into play then it's play on, not a behind or OOB.

Haven't thought about it that much. Maybe some padding with advertising up to about waist height, to protect players off their feet, but otherwise the hockey players seem to bounce off that perspex pretty good - it has a bit of give in it.

I've always thought a rebound off the post and back into play should be play on, even in conventional footy (with the exception being after the siren).

Is it wrong I'm enjoying the Big Bash more than the Test series? I'm a bit scared.

Well except from all the bullshit around Chris Gayle, who epitomizes everything that's gone wrong with cricket.
