This game will give us a good idea of a floor crowd for Boxing Day. Still tipping around 45,000 because so many just go as a tradition regardless of the quality of game offered. The prospect of a modest crowd and relaxed atmosphere may actually lure a few.

The weather forecast for Boxing Day may put a few off as well.

It's going to be quite a day.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

Apparently Burns left the nets last night with the Doctor, so he could have a niggle.

Surely we have to back Burns in if fit?

Was struck on the arm, returned soon after to finish his net though

Given WI are an incompetent batting team who struggle to last 50 or 60 overs, I reckon the selectors could easily drop Mitch Marsh as the all rounder (lucky to hold his spot anyway) and play all those batting well enough to deserve a top 6 spot.

They could get really arrogant and bat them at something like Warner/Burns/Khawaja/S.Marsh/Smith/Voges just to give the 3 players effectively vying ultimately for 2 spots healthy opportunity.

That would be disrespectful of WI, which is currently appropriate.

Did anyone read where, in the 2 day game against a Vic team, a ball was skied to a WI fieldsman who didn't lay hand to ball because he was talking to someone in the crowd and had his back to play? It's like they've regressed a century.

Shaun has done well and is in form. Hard to pick, do you drop Burns or do you look at the future so that he can consolidate with Warner?

Picking six in form batsman is certainly a novel idea but not one the selectors are ready to embrace just yet I suspect. As you say we probably only need four. That 3/lots declared has been pretty common this simmer.

I read about that back to play thing too. His teammates had to yell out to him to make him aware aware the ball was on its way toward him. This Windies team is a bit like some of the smambles we put out on the field in the WSC breakaway days and also the Austalian teams under Kim Hughes after G. Chappell/Marsh/Lillee retired. For a couple of years under Hughes and then Border it was painful to watch. One series where Hadlee just had our guys mesmerised and NZ belted us was awful. Up until Simpson took over as coach and we won the World Cup out of nowhere in 1987 we were awful. No one expected us to Get out of our group in the WC we'd been so bad but we won and all of a sudden Border had some authority and could get his own way more often.

                    Then Warnie came along.

I remember those 80s teams well. They were pretty awful, but at least they were having a go. This WI team don't seem to care less. It's like the Test team are the leftovers of who can't get T20 contracts and therefore have a chip on their shoulder to be playing Test level, which is depressing in itself.

Yes at least we won a few tests as well back then.

During the 80's we played 27 test series matches. We won 9, Drew 9 and lost 9

How about from 85-89 do you have those figures?

I reckon the worst of it was mid 80s, we were coming good again by 88-89.
