      Re: BBL talk.

The biggest problem with the BBL, especially from an emotional involvement with any one team POV, is how each team is at the mercy of the national selectors. Last night the Melbourne Etihads would have been sure things if Travis Head was made to stay with the Australian T20 squad (as Stanlake and Carey have), or Kane Richardson was allowed to play for the Melbourne team.

There is no reason for the national team to play a meaningless T20 game on the same weekend as the BBL finals, and therefore influence results by making some players available and others not.

Yep it's really stupid and ruins the spectacle. Even for the final tomorrow they have allowed Carey, head and Short to play but not allowed Stanlake.

Great to see the Stars in the final. Early on they never even looked like making the finals. Glenn Maxwell has been an excellent captain.

Not sure about that, they started ok, had a bad run when their Australian players were missing and picked it up again when they returned.

Once again the top team has not even made the final. The stars have also been on the receiving end in this regard in the past. They have already extended the season, surely 1 extra game to allow the top 2 teams a double chance wouldn't hurt?

The season has been too long in my opinion to the detriment of Shield cricket.

The whole summer calendar needs to be looked at, whether domestic or international.

Yes the season is definitely too long, people just lose interest once school goes back at the end of January. But 1 extra game to reward the top 2 finishers isn't going to make any difference.

It shouldn't go past the end of Jan despite the revenue it brings in.
I sense that many of the supporters of it tapered off over the last 2 weeks.

That being said, the T20 game is supposed to have those type of results on occasions. It's just a shame it was a final

                          Re: BBL talk.

The BBL is just shits and giggles.
                          It is eminently forgettable.
To me it encapsulates all that is wrong with the modern era:
                          *instant gratification is king
                          * no room for nuance
                          * The fact i took my sister & brother in law from Seattle to a BBL game and they loved the noise, flamethrower, and excitement and show.
                          I nearly threw up.

If that's what you need to do to create an entertaining and successful modern day sports event, then the sport itself is lacking.

                          Ok. I'm middle-aged and irrelevant.

At the BBL game with my sister I was so blown away by the shallowness of the sport, it reminded me of the Milan Kundera novel Slowness; a lament for a time where enjoyment, learning, meaning came via taking time, savouring, and recognising the importance of each moment.
It seems that now a moment is only important if it is done quickly, so one can Instagtram it, and get ready for the next event.

Old, irrelevant man rant. almost over.....

Hopefully some guys hit some dingers today, and there were lots of ramp shots, crowd catches, and cool banter and in-jokes between mic'd up players and the 'lads' in the commentary box.
Oh so cool..See you next year BBL what 9 or 10..or um what is it..who won last year??? Oh well its totes loud and sooooo many sixes ..

                          Yaaawwwnn..

The 20 overs is the more than I've watched combined in probably two years. A mammoth choke car crash is always interesting in sport. The Melbourne thing is hard to work out. I dislike both which makes tribalism for me too hard. Give me test cricket any day, but things are moving away from it and I fear what will happen to it long term. I'm losing interest in 50 overs too. Maybe I just need a new sport to wedge in between footy seasons.

It tapers off after the school holidays. It is all about families going, a quick game and a bit of fun. Nothing to get serious about.

When BBL first started I went with the Stars because that's who Warnie played for but I changed it the Renegades when they started to have the preseason fan days at the Merv Hughes Oval a few years ago, they don't have them there anymore though
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.
