The Hurricanes odds will blow out if Short gets drafted into the ODI team! Hopefully he should get a go in the T20 internationals next month. Didn't realise how old he is - turns 28 later in the year.

Great point. And add to that, that he is scoring big runs playing excellent 'cricket shots'. His bowling is quite reasonable also, and adds something different as a left arm wrist spinner.

Only issue is that we have two 'locks' as openers in Warner and Finch - but you'd think Short could bat 3 and Smith 4.

Imagine Warner, Finch, Short & Smith all firing in the one innings. That would be something all together awesome.

I would play Short ahead of Finch, but he could slot in down the order as well.

Apparently Lynn can't throw properly on his preferred arm, and has a dodgy hamstring.

Maxwell according to Smith needs to "train smarter" to be considered for a spot. Admittedly his recent averages in the national team are less than satisfactory however, it seems from the outside personalities are keeping him out more than anything.

I'd love to know how the love-in selection patterns actually affect how national teams are selected. If the Australian cricket team wants our adulation, it needs to be a meritocracy when selected. It's been going on for years, sure the selectors got it right for the test series but our current Australian team is only slightly better than England was in the 90's and early 2000's, they're lucky they've been playing against something considerably worse.

Dirk Nannes gave a full-throated defence of Maxwell whilst simultaneously blasting the selectors for leaving him out of the squad.

In references to his recent averages, Nannes gave some context to some of the scores, indicating that there were a couple of instances when he came out to bat in the last few overs with plenty of wickets in hand, and would have been under instruction to score runs quickly.

If there's an actual issue keeping him out of the side then come out and say so, but don't use half baked statistics to do it. They end up looking like a bunch of idiots.

If I were Maxwell, I reckon I'd be close to saying to Cricket Australia "If you're not going to pick me irrespective of what I do, don't bother contracting me next time around. I'll follow Chris Gayle's lead and make heaps of money on the international T20 circuit."

Agree on your point point about Maxwell and will add that Smith's comments about a player on the edge of selection like Smith bordered on the bizarre. To say like that in public rather than private reveals a lot more about Smith than anyone else.

England mainly through Roy are really going for it. We've got a couple of wickets but they will get the runs with 7 overs to spare if they get a large partnership
