Demon looked really good tonight. Was a tricky first round opponent and he got through easily.
I was disappointed Poppy couldn't get through, too many errors with 7 double faults.

some fantastic gtennis right now with Kokkinakis serving for match to go to the third round. Has been a great match to date.

EDIT: He blew his chance to serve out the match and now they are into the 5th set. Off to bed for me

Fair to say the "Wogz Rule" graffiti has been prematurely applied to the toilet walls of Melbourne Park for the second night in a row. Maybe just a bit of decorum would go a long way if some of the more parochial among the crowd kept their powder dry.......

EDIT - I mean that's an obviously racist thing to have posted. Apologies, I'll leave it up and you can get into me if you need to.

Really high quality match. Draper was unbelievable. Only 30 unforced errors in a match lasting 4.5 hours. Was rock solid and gave no free points.

Once Kokkinakis's serve speed started to drop it was all over. Played a really poor game serving for the match. Unfortunate.

Would've been a heavy favourite to defeat another Aussie (Vucic) in the third round too. Missed opportunity.

I don't think Draper was great. He won't progress against a top player with that form.
His second serve seems pretty ordinary, but Kokkinakis really let him get away with it by not doing much proactively.

Kokkinakis should have put him away easily, but failed to finish points off regularly allowing Draper to stay in until Kokkinakis made the error.

I can see from that why Kokki has just not made any inroads into the rankings.

Does high profile Tennis in Australia somehow lend itself to self pretentious players? We seem to have enough talented players over the years to have been a force in world tennis but so many of them are difficult to like.

His shoulder injury doesn't help him.

Actually the shoulder is no excuse for his failure to put balls away. His problem is shot selection/confidence.

His shoulder would hold up much better if he put away more winners.

The Demon into the 3rd round with another easy win. Hasn't dropped a set at this stage

Feel like he'll need all the three setters he can get if he wants to deliver at the real pointy end. He's a specimen in his own right, but others on tour are a lot for him to handle. If he can roll into the fourth and then quarters relatively physically/ fatigue unconstrained that'd make him a lot more competitive.

Tennis typically is a sport for the privileged which isn't surprising the types of characters it brings.

Yep, spot on. He was playing bloody great tennis last year until injury hit. He looks to be fully recovered and has added more strength whilst he rehabbed. if only Jack Macrae wanted to hit the gym more!

During 2024 Sinner did not seem to let the drug saga hamper his on-court results. It will be interesting how he now goes the court date has been set and if he can have the same mental resolve.

Hopefully Carlos Alcaraz holds the trophy aloft come the final Sunday.

Vudic - fantastic effort last night to just get pipped in 5 sets, with the last going down to a tie breaker - 10/8

Demon has dropped the first set, but won the second.

Unbelievable from Novak. I had doubts he could still produce that level of tennis for 3-4 hours against Alcaraz or Sinner. Staggering what he's doing really.
