Mexico go from leading the group at the start of the day to being on the brink of elimination on goal difference despite winning their first two games, only for the weakest team in the group to pull a victory out of their backsides and send the reigning champions tumbling out.

Switzerland, England/Columbia, Croatia into the final. 67-1 I’ll take all day long. Spain going out opens that side right up and it took a freak Kroos freekick at the death to be a near perfect group stage. They also knocked the Italians out in qualifying. Worth a look for sure.

Belgium and Japan put on a show that probably won't be matched in the tournament. With Belgium getting the winner in the dying seconds after repelling a Japanese corner. After going down 2-0 in the second half.

Not only were there some wonderful skills on display but it was free of controversy, free of diving, gamesmanship and histrionics from both teams and (I thought) very well refereed.

My first instinct was misdirected cross but the more I watched the replay three more I leaned toward lobbing the keeper.

I agree, it seemed like he meant it. I’m not sure he could do it again but it looked amazing. The winning goal was utterly beautiful too.

IT was almost a carbon copy of Landon Donovan's goal 8 years ago that put USA through to the round of 16.

Well England finally broke a huge voodoo, even though they gave up a lead with a minute to go they finally won a penalty shoot out.
Interesting times ahead looking at the draw, good to see a lot of the big teams gone and someone out of the blue could actually win this.
