Watching Wade bowl yesterday reminds me of a time when the nets were still at Whitten Oval. Back in the day when World Series Cricket was on and because the WSC players were locked out of all the cricket grounds they would train wherever they could. So one day the Windies players were training in the nets at Whitten oval. The keeper Derick Murray was bowling leggies and Viv Richards just couldn't pick his wrong 'un. I reckon Murray must have bowled him or had him plumb LBW at least half a dozen times.

Anyway when they had finished the local kids wanted autographs. I walked up to Viv Richards and asked for an autograph and he said "nah mon, can't be bothered" and waved me away. Murray looked over at him and said "sign the kid's book or I will qualify for another country and I'll bowl you out every match" Viv couldn't sign it quickly enough.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

The current crew are rising with a bullet though. If Patto can stay fit. Look out!
We both over looked Len Pascoe. And Terry Alderman.

Allan Border had Alderman, Hughes and Lawson at his disposal in the '89 ashes, with Trevor Hohns as the spinner.

And Carl Rackeman (who was bloody fast) didn't play a test despite being in the party. He must have been injured because they bought in a replacement quick who never played again called Greg Campbell.

I tell you who doesn't get nearly enough credit and that is Tony Dodemaide. I played against both him and Merv Hughes and Tony was quite a bit faster through the air the then Merv was. Merv swung the new ball considerably (and it's movement that does a good batsman not pace-fast bowlers slow down and then tend to drop it short to compensate and that's when you cash in) but movement through the air is dangerous.

This is an outstanding record for test cricket. Yeah he bowled on uncovered wickets and dined out on a bad South African team but George Lohman's record is second to none for average and strike rate:

            Experience: 1886-96

            Country: England

            Other major teams: Surrey

Career stats in Tests: 18 matches, 112 wickets, 10.75 average, 34.1 strike rate, 1.88 economy, 9-22 best bowling, 9 5w in an innings 9 times.
