Duckett has left the ball eight times in six Tests

In mid-afternoon Sky came up with this startling stat: Duckett, since his recall last December, had left the ball ? had let it pass unplayed outside off stump ? eight times. Eight times in six Tests. Most England openers through the ages have left the ball many times more than eight in every session.

A big question that will be asked on 16 June is: Can a batsman, especially an opener who has to contend with a new hard ball, succeed against Australia without leaving the ball more than once per match? It will be a first if Duckett does, but then so much in contemporary Test cricket has no precedent.
Haha and I?m expecting Dunkett, like most of their top order, nicking behind early in an innings. Team looks good on paper but they aren?t playing Pakistan on a road in Pakistan. I?m expecting Crawley, Dunkett, Pope and Brook to all struggle against the new ball.

Starc shouldn't play. If Hazlewood is not fit play Nesser. The key to winning the Ashes is stopping Bazball and Starc feeds Bazball.

I tend to agree but I was listening to this aspect being discussed and the thought was that Starc is regarded as a good bowler in limited over cricket where the batsman are going after the bowlers.
I could certainly understand if we were to bring in Neser but I doubt it will happen.

Starc was going for a run a ball v India so it is concerning what bazball could do. The counter argument is he just has this knack of picking up wickets. There are some tough calls to be made.

Starc is good knocking over the tail. Eng has 2 good batsman, Root and Stokes. The others in a bazball situation could all Nick behind for low scores. I’d be VERY surprised if Eng score 300 in any innings batting first with this mindset. This will play right into Australia’s hands. England will score quick, giving Aust plenty of time to score big and bowl Eng out a 2nd time. Australia’s line and length, especially from Cummins and Boland, will be too much for Crawley, Dunkett, Pope and Brook.

So far the pitch has played flat and the runs have flowed. Hazlewood's line has been immaculate. Cummins and Boland less so. Lunch on Day 1 I would say England have just edged it.
