Can someone please explain how the SPL works with regard to splitting up the ladder towards the end of the season. I read over the weekend that the top 6 teams play each other & the bottom 6 play each other, but a bottom 6 team can't move into the top 6, which I understand as they notionally play weaker teams.

What intrigued me was that Celtic & Rangers have to play each other, but it won't be the last game as they don't wan't an Old Firm title decider right at the death. Incidentally, who gets home ground advantage in that final Old Firm clash?

TCD, if you can understand the logic behind the AFL Fixturing, working out the SPL will be a breeze.

Seriously though it is a weird set up. The bottom 6 are guaranteed virtually no television coverage in the last 5 weeks of the season. With regards to the Old Firm, I'm pretty sure the home team in the final fixture will be the away team from the last fixture.

I hope that clears that up.

Now, let me explain the AFL Tribunual Points System. If you are found guil.......

        Aaah bugger it.

Scots end Gers pair's cap career

              In part the article reads:

Rangers' Barry Ferguson and Allan McGregor have been told they will never play for Scotland again.

The Scottish FA made the announcement because of a weekend drinking session after defeat by Netherlands and V-signs made on the bench against Iceland.

Rangers had earlier on Friday stripped Ferguson of the team captaincy and suspended the midfielder and goalkeeper McGregor for two weeks without pay.

Ferguson and McGregor were shown making V-signs on international duty

Time for youth to take hold of the national team, Miller, Berra, Morrison, McCormack and the like.

In my opinion Ferguson has been overrated for a long time, and these young guys are set to take over.

Pardon my ignorance, I'm not that up with modern culture, what does the 'V' sign mean?

I thought its an old culture thing? Modern thing is to 'flip a bird'. Doesn't it basically mean the same thing?
I think it's history has something to do with archers fingers being cut off?

Italian's have the 'umbrella' gesture and a heap of other great ones.

I think Ferguson is giving the sign he played 2 decent games for Blackburn in his underwhelming stint in the EPL.

                        Hi guys,

                        great topic.

grew up in a home where my dad listened intently at 6pm every sunday night to get all the UK soccer results, and most importantly the Scottish results.

He is from Peterhead, nth of Aberdeen, so naturally hes a Peterhead/Aberdeen fan.

Personally im a Buddies fan. I started up supporting them after one of my scottish relations told my dad that they had a player with my name. (late 70's early 80's from memory). Also follow Gers..(if st mirren arent in the SPL)

I have foxtel, but not Setanta, when my dad & I get together we always end up talking football (aussie rules & soccer) but mainly EPL & Championship as we both cant afford Setanta.......
Would much prefer to watch SPL than EPL... may have to look at my options again

As we discussed yesterday, the reason was they had been out all night on the piss and were just trying to keep their eyes open.

Gers got up without them anyway. Thanks christ for Kris Boyd. Hope Scotland have plenty of evidence that the signs were on purpose as the only footage i've seen are from still photos! I sit like that at the footy all game long sometimes. Think Smith et al are being a little precious.
