    Re: 2009 Ashes Squad

Not too many suprises there, the one batsman short could be a concern, especially IF Watson does break down.

"Apparently" Chris Rogers is in England playing County cricket, he could be on the short list of replacements if needed, so i don't think the one batsman short is as much of a concern as alot of people think.

McGrath played the 1st test at Lords and about 2 more after that.

Averages aside, Watson can bowl, Hodge has done it before at the level and Ferguson was debatably our best ODI bat over the summer.

I would have all three in ahead of Klinger, and lose McDonald from the all-rounders. He just isn't very good.
          Why should that count?

Because it shows he's more than up to international level.

It is a totally different format which requires different skill sets, but I guess that doesn't matter any more.

For a batsmen, the game is about hitting the ball. Whether it's red or white is irrelevent.

                  Rubbish!

The longer form of the games requires players who have patience, can build an innings, are prepared to see off a new ball, not subjected to the fielding team having restrictions, bowlers who can bowl all day at them & are prepared to value their wicket..

The one day version requires players who may be be as technically correct, can improvise, take chancey runs & who don't place as great a value on their wicket.

This may be the case for an opener, but for a middle order batsman its much the same game. If a big total is on the cards, then they can bat freely and without limitations. If there is a collapse, then they are restricted and bat with a better temprement to play themselves in.

                      Sorry HD, but no way.

What has hitting a pitched up ball to a cover sweeper for 20 overs got to do with test cricket?

Different games that require different skills and it annoys the crap out of me that the incompetent bunch of tools who have the responsibility of picking our test team don't see it.

Ferguson is better at the longer form of the game anyway.

Bit surprised he didn't make the squad after having an impressive summer all round. He's young though, and has plenty of time.
Have you heard Butters wants to come to the Dogs?

Hughes out again to a short ball, Bevan all over again.
