    Re: NRL Finals

I had a laugh at the call of ....... says chewy on your boot, i thought it was something a 5 year old would say, had no meaning of what had just happened.
When the final siren went all the commentators just talked about how sad the Eels players were, nothing to mention the Storm.
    Bring back the biff

      Re: NRL Finals

Anyone notice that SBS's coverage of the A-League is (un)surprisingly similar in its Sydney-centricness? Melbourne Victory won the whole she-bang last year and didn't have a single player in its Team of the Year, every Melbourne article is negative etc. etc.

We used to have a bit of an inferiority complex of the two cities, but I think it's pretty obvious now where the insecurity lies -- Melbourne will overtake Sydney as its premier city (both financially and population wise) within the next ten years, and we are already the sporting, culinary and cultural capitals, so Sydney will really have nothing to offer other than a beautiful harbour, an Opera House, and great surf beaches.

Didn't Victoria win everything this year? Bushrangers in the Shield, Melbourne Tigers in b-ball, Storm in league, Victory in soccer, Cats in AFL...

That was in reference to an incident last year where Brett White accused Fuifui Moimoi of biting him. The headline in the paper read 'Chewy Chewy Moimoi'.

I'm quite sure Hernandez made the team of the year.

I agree that the commentary was biased. I can only recall the commentators giving the storm some credit in the 79th minute, disgraeful effort.

Making the bench doesn't count, surely. 11 starting spots, and duds were getting named that wouldn't get picked ahead of their Melbourne counterparts in a million years.

Didn't actually see the team of the year on paper just heard about it. I would of thought Hernandez was a monty to be in the starting 11, he maybe chunky but there is no one in the A league who can create better.

                WOOO HOOO!!!!

Just got home from Sydney, it was awesome!!!! Felt even better than after the 2007 grand final win.

Bought Sydney papers at the airport - it's all about how poor Parramatta lost, and the penalty given to Storm with 3 minutes to go. Never mind Greg Inglis being clotheslined after kicking the ball in the first half.

I was getting texts from friends in Melbourne asking who won the Clive Churchill medal, thanks to good old Channel 9 cutting off the presentation.

Anyway, brilliant effort Storm!!So proud to support such a great team.

2008/09 A-League Team of the Year

                  Goalkeeper:
                  Eugene Galekovic, Adelaide United

                  Defenders:
                  Scott Jamieson, Adelaide United
                  Sasa Ognenovski, Adelaide United
                  Craig Moore, Queensland Roar
                  Ben Kantarovski, Newcastle Jets

                  Midfielders:
                  Mile Jedinak, Central Coast Mariners
                  Paul Reid, Adelaide United
                  Tahj Minniecon, Queensland Roar
                  Charlie Miller, Queensland Roar

                  Forwards:
                  Sergio van Dijk, Queensland Roar
                  Shane Smeltz, Wellington Phoenix

                  Reserves:
                  Carlos Hernandez, Melbourne Victory
                  Nikita Rukavytsya, Perth Glory
                  Eugene Dadi, Perth Glory
                  Alex Brosque, Sydney FC

                  ---

Don't know how Minniecon made the TOTY ahead of Travis Dodd (from Adelaide -- I thought he was the best player of the year) or Muscat, 17-year old Kantarovski's selection is a joke (didn't even play defence!) over any of Muscat or Vargas. Jedinek only played a quarter of the season before leaving for Turkey yet makes the TOTY -- Hernandez or Celeski should have been picked instead, and Archie Thompson made every voted TOTY (the PFA etc.) but couldn't make SBS's ahead of van Dijk, who only played well for the last month of the competition. Archie didn't even make the bench! Galekovic is an okay selection but Theoklitos played out of his skin all year and has been picked up by Norwich City.

By looking at that team its hard to believe that Melbourne are the champions instead fo Adelaide or Queensland. Billy should of been in there he was outstanding last season.

And not that anybody cares but we won the netball too. So yes a complete clean sweep for Victoria. We need a union side so we can really dominate.

Billy Slater won the Churchill medal but I don't think he deserved it. Cronk was immense IMO.

                          .
That's right we did too (sorry all netball fans).

If we dominated both League AND Union that would really stick it up the northern states would it not. Very likely too -- we have the most eclectic and inclusive sports fans in this state. (Don't we sell out every Union test at the G?)

You beat me to it TCD!!

Should have seen the rot printed in yesterdays Daily Telegraph. Parramatta's CEO called Storm "grubby" and said we didn't play in the spirit of the game. They even dug out 4 old photos of various tackles (one even from 2007) to highlight this. He also said that Adam Blair is the master of the "chicken wing" tackle. Craig Bellamy responded in last nights press conference, saying they are hypocrites seeing as one of their players was charged with a "chicken wing" tackle last week, and to the best of Craig's knowledge none of our players knee the opposition in the head when they're trying to score. KAPOW!! RIGHT BACK AT YA PARRAMATTA!!
