 Re: NRL Finals

I had to hold back a bit as my wife and mother in law were watching the game with me and they're from a family of Parra supporters, but Gus Gould made me sick to my stomach. The first half was all about Parramatta's poor decision making and execution. Greg Inglis gets tackled a good two seconds after kicking the ball and all Gould has to say is that you let those go in grand finals. You beat me to it TCD!!

Should have seen the rot printed in yesterdays Daily Telegraph. Parramatta's CEO called Storm "grubby" and said we didn't play in the spirit of the game. They even dug out 4 old photos of various tackles (one even from 2007) to highlight this. He also said that Adam Blair is the master of the "chicken wing" tackle. Craig Bellamy responded in last nights press conference, saying they are hypocrites seeing as one of their players was charged with a "chicken wing" tackle last week, and to the best of Craig's knowledge none of our players knee the opposition in the head when they're trying to score. KAPOW!! RIGHT BACK AT YA PARRAMATTA!!

He's practically cheering on Parra in the last 10 minutes, and then that last penalty... when last I checked the rules of Rugby League (I'm happy for DR or any other northener to correct me on this) if a retreating defender dislodges the ball when the tackled player is getting up to play the ball, that's a penalty. Obviously Gus didn't see it that way. Funny that...

What it boils down to is the trophy is back where it belongs, and Gus and any other anti-Victorian fool involved in rugby league can go and get stuffed.Comment

I haven't watched the tv game yet - will do that tonight!!

I was getting plenty of texts at the game about the biased commentary though. Yes, apparently GI can get clotheslined around the neck after kicking the ball and that's ok. Comment

 Re: NRL Finals

I remember a couple of years ago the Sydney media saying we shouldnt have a team, no-one followed it and we didnt deserve it.
Lets look at the facts, we pull the highest crowd at games, have won 3 premierships in 11 years and been in the last 4 grand finals.....
Says enough about the Sydney mind set.Bring back the biffComment

I think Brisbane have everyone well & truly covered there, we only get about 13 & a half thousand.I remember a couple of years ago the Sydney media saying we shouldnt have a team, no-one followed it and we didnt deserve it.

Brisbane come in first averaging 24,482. Melbourne trail badly in 13th spot (only Cronulla, Canberra & Easts have smaller crowds) with 13,539.

I did hear that we have the third largest membership behind the Broncos & Titans. Don't know if it's true, but I'm sure it'll increase even more next year when we're in the new stadium. Comment

 Re: NRL Finals

You are correct in your interpretation of the rules - be it accidetal or deliberate it was a definite penalty. Some of the Sydneycentric media also agree - listening to Greg Alexander on Sports Today he agreed that it was a definite penalty. Robert Finch (NRL referee's boss) also confirmed the point that it was a definite penalty. He also stated that the Storm should have received a penalty for the late tackle laid on Inglis after he chipped the ball.

Whilst I am a Sydneysider I was very happy that the Storm got up.Comment

Greg Alexander always seems to be fair - but he's a Foxtel commentator, so unfortunately he can't bring some sanity & impartiality to the Channel 9 commentary team. You are correct in your interpretation of the rules - be it accidetal or deliberate it was a definite penalty. Yes, don't hear them screaming up there in Sydney about GI not getting a penalty. We watched the game last night, can't believe all 3 commentators missed the ball being knocked out of Billy's hands. Idiots. Comment

 Re: NRL Finals

 In your opinion.

Adelaide pays someone else to make that call, and they say that Dodd is their captain, top-scorer (from midfield) and their best player in a team that made the Asian Cup Final; Travis was also voted by his peers (the PFA) in last season's team of the season and made the shortlist for Australian player of the year alongside the likes of Cahill and Kewell.

Not really the credentials of a so-called 'dud', and I never said Tahj was a 'dud' either, just that there were others more deserving of a TOTY berth.Comment

Yes, it was Fitzgerald who did all he could to have the Storm evicted from the NRL, hope he choked on his dinner on Sunday night! [COLOR="Red"][B][U][COLOR="Blue"]85, 92, 97, 98, 08, 09, 10... Re: NRL Finals

Yes, it was Dennis Fitzgerald. He was an idiot. Unfortunately their new CEO seems to be just as stupid (see my previous post #44) Don't know what it is with Eels CEOs. At the 2007 Preliminary Final V Eels at Telstra Dome, some blokes behind us had made a banner - "Dennis Fitzgerald is an oxygen thief". He'd been going on that week about how Storm shouldn't even be in the NRL. Comment
