4 wickets for 109 runs is a good result for Ponting. Got that ball swinging well with reverse (surprising it didn't eventuate for Pakistan) and we're in the box seat now.

Another good bowling spell by Shane Watson. Whilst he is in the side there is no need to look at a 4th paceman on the fast tracks.

Huge wicket with Yousuf out 2nd last ball of the day.

Pakistani seem a polar opposite to the Windies (well more to the point Gayle) in how they go about their batting. Going at a touch over 2 an over really means you need to bat for about 2 days to get a good score together. I think they need around 350 to make a game of it and that is going to be very difficult without Yousuf. Umar Akmal is vital, he was great in his debut series vs NZ and they really need him to reproduce that form tomorrow.

I was very impressed with Watson's bowling today, especially his ability to get reverse swing. Not bad for someone who keeps on making scores opening the batting.

He's bowled some important spells this summer and today's 6 over effort was another good one.

That's right. Watson makes anything other than a specialist spinner too much of a waste.

Today's bowling spell by Watson makes me want them to move him down the order even more. I know he is doing very well as an opener but I think it will be very hard to keep on improving his bowling while he has such a responsibility with the bat. I already view him as Australia's best and most valuable test player.

Made me rate his bowling higher. The reverse swing was quality.

Hard to disagree with - it's just a shame he's a giant knob.

I was actually going to say 'he is as good at cricket as he is at being a wanker' but he would have to be the equal of Wasim Akram with the ball, Tendulkar with the bat and Roger Harper in the field to manage that.

Howabout an option of batting him say at 2nd or 3rd drop? Obviously with Ponting & Hussey in the side, there is no real need to, but once they move on, that could be another option as well as batting him at 6, Jacques Kallis has probably best the best all rounder over the past decade, would easily bowl as much as Watson would and bats at 4.

To me, Watson is proving that he can pretty much bat anywhere, and we could perhaps ease a Ferguson in at 5 or 6, or some other youngster coming through down the track.

Does it matter, so was Shane Warne.

                        Of course it matters.

Why do we love Chris Grant so much? He was a great player, but it's his attitude take makes us all ga-ga over him.

If the Dogs signed a jerk who helped us win more games, I would be happy overall but it definitely also takes something away from it for me. I do like my team winning but I also like to have players in my team that I don't dislike.

Haven't we done that a few times over the last few years?

Can someone please remind me of why Watson is so hated around here?

It was Clarke not Ponting who sent out the night watchman.

Having went yesterday I must say that the review process is a farce. It takes too much time and makes the job of the umpire redundant.

The action was pretty slow and mundane, but I guess that had a fair bit to do with the pitch. I hope the Akmal boys get going today as they will provide some good entertainment if they can occupy the crease for any length of time.

It was good to catch up with a couple of fellow woofer's in EJ Smith & comrade who as with I, are very keen for the footy season to begin.
