Your right Mantis the last season was very frustrating, but after Alonso then Benitez and Benayoun leaving, losing even a fragile Torres would be to much to take.Comment

Re: FIFA World Cup 2010
Hi all, have missed WOOF, but still on cloud ninety-nine after Spain's win.. you should have seen my wife -- she was calling and SMSing her relatives every 5 minutes and when Iniesta's goal went in, the crowd in the fan fest location we were in was so loud my eardrums nearly burst -- it was like every Christmas and birthday had come at once... (we were in Cape Town, not J'burg, unfortunately.. for those interested, one of the non-gov organisations I work with is involved in the Soccer for Hope project and I'm project managing one of the gender-based education interventions in the region as well as guest contributing to a soccer tactics blog for a second WC after I helped out at the last one in Germany, which got me press-box access to a few games).
Back in Melbourne now but will be in Spain in November - April and I can't wait.. wife's relos say that the country is going ballistic, and we'll bring our Iniesta and Xavi jerseys to wear to a game, hopefully at the Camp Nou.. will also try to get a glimpse of the Cup as it tours around the country.
I love our Dogs, but seriously, nothing really compares to a World Cup, or a soccer crowd.. was trying to watch the Port game on the weekend and enjoyed it, but it just wasn't the same. I'm suffering soccer withdrawals big-time.. even Boca-Victory was worth going to just to soak up some of the atmosphere. Hopefully a Grand Final win in September will feed the buzz somewhat... it's time. If Spain -- as jinxed a World Cup contestant as any -- can win a World Cup, the Dogs can win a flag!Comment

Re: FIFA World Cup 2010
Great to hear you enjoyed your time in SA Lantern.
We also had an amazing time in SA. The World Cup is on such a large scale that it does put our beloved AFL into perspective, if only for four weeks every four years. Hopefully we qualify for Brazil, as we will definitely make the pilgrimage again.
I'm also having withdrawl symptons from the World Cup (a huge buzz travelling and wathcing so many important games in such a short period of time, we attended 7 games in 14 days and must have watched live every single group and round 16 game while we were there).
Not even attending the demolition job on Carlton got the blood pumping after the World Cup, however I'm certain with so much at stake with this weeks must win game against Fremantle that the exictement levels will rise dramitically.
However the Bulldogs running around in September is the drug required to fill the void that the World Cup has left.Comment
