Sorry that the actual game scoreline was a bad experience It was dissappointing to watch it on tv so would have been a lot worse been there.I hope you have a better match experience in the Ghana game. The actual event seems well organised though? What are your impressions of South Africa or Durban in particular?
Have been super impressed with South Africa so far. Felt very safe and everyone has been friendly. Durban reminded me of the Gold Coast, great beaches, great weather, the Aussie contingent felt right at home.

Very well organised event, except it is almost impossible to get a beer/drink at the two games that I have been to and it can take a while to get into the stadiums due the security checks. Also the traffic around the stadiums is chaos and you need to plan to get there at least a couple of hours before kick off to make it in on time.

Also great to just be able to watch the other games at decent times rather than be up in the middle of the night.

So far everything has been great except the Austalia's perfromance, hopefully we can turn it around.

Brasil just did enough to win against the North Koreans. The last few minutes were hearts in the mouth stuff when the Korean defender scored. The scoreline was a lot closer than I had thought. They will have to improve a lot on that performance when they play Ivory Coast and Portugal.

The group of Brasil, Ivory Coast and Portugal is a really tough one, because whoever finishes second, has to play Spain first in the final 16.

Was surprised to see New Zealand get a draw. It would be strange if they scored more points or even goals than Australia for the tournament.

Again not knowing a lot about the game of soccer it's tactics and the world cup I must ask, why isn't the Australian team contesting the Cahil red card?? Enough people have said it would have probably been down graded. But now Timmy will miss the rest of the cup?

It's a tough one but by the letter of the law you can't tackle from behind. In any other competion it would not have been a red card but in the world cup they are very strict and FIFA will not want to admit they were wrong. Its unlucky but in a world cup FIFA will back the ref

                            Not really.

Spain played like shit and although the goal the Swiss scored was scrappy they were able to frustrate the Spanish with their defensive-orientated mind-set, however they did look dangerous on the counter and took their chance.

Puts Spain in a tough situation having to beat Chile & Honduras to progress. A win against Honduras should be all-but guaranteed, but Chile looked pretty good last night and it shapes as a real test.... What price Spain to get knocked in the group stage pre-tournament?

Cards can't get downgraded. The standing rule is that once the referee makes a decision on an event, that's the final word. The only overturning that can occur is if the referee MISSES the event altogether, and so has not yet made a decision on it, or if it is an out-and-out blatant mistake (like giving the card to the wrong person). However, producing a card means that he has taken a decision, and FIFA can not retrospectively change a referee's decision, no matter how incorrect.

This is why Thierry Henry's handball could not be overruled, Maradona's Hand of God stood, and Graham Poll's handing out of three yellow cards to the same player in the last world cup has been recorded as such. Essentially, the referee is God. What FIFA can do is play with the CONSEQUENCES of his decisions (like the number of matches Tim Cahill will be suspended for), but nothing can be done about the decision itself, once made.
