    Re: FIFA World Cup 2010

That shot was taken from about 8 yards if you judge the cut of the grass at 6 yards each considering there is three strips in the 18 yard box. As others have said the red is very harsh. There has to be grounds to appeal that red before the next game. But as FIFA is as corrupt as the most corrupt organisation ever to participate in corruption, I doubt we will have any success.

I fear the only way we will participate in the next 3 world cups is to host all of them.

      Re: FIFA World Cup 2010

A great start by the Socceroos with an early Holman goal, but absolute disaster on 25 mins when Harry Kewell handled on the goal line & was red carded & a penalty awarded, which was duly converted.

Disappointing that the Ghanian attacker was able to beat 2 of Wilkshire & Emerton in the box before getting his cross in. Had we stopped that then there would have not been a penalty.

Late in the half the Ghanians really started to
get on top. Great save by Schwarzer.

If we continue to sit back Ghana will eventually score.

How is that tackle from behind only a yellow?

There aren't. Lantern posted earlier highlighting the fact that the only grounds for appeal is if there is a case of mistaken identity.

So FIFA back the judgments of all of their officials, unquestionably. There's a job for the "Geesh".

                  Re: FIFA World Cup 2010

How does Group D look after 2 games?

                  GHA - 4pt - +1
                  GER - 3pt - +3
                  SER - 3pt - 0
                  AUS - 1pt - -4

Strange as it sounds Australia can still qualify.

                  a) If Australia loses or draws then that's it, we're eliminated.

                  b) If we win, we go to 4 points (overtaking Serbia).

                  c) If we win & Ghana defeat Germany we would qualify along with Ghana.

                  d) If we win & Germany beat Ghana we would be level with Ghana on 4 points. To overtake them, there would have to be a swing of 6 goals in goal difference (say we won 3-0 & Germany won 3-0, our goal difference would be -1 & Ghana's would be -2). If there was a swing of 5 goals, then both teams would have the same goal difference, so it would then depend on who has scored the most goals.

                  e) If Ghana defeats Germany or draws with them they will qualify.

                  f) If Ghana loses by 1 goal & Serbia draws, Ghana & Serbia would both have 4 points & a goal difference of 0. Whoever scores the most goals would qualify. If that too were level, then Ghana would qualify via head to head (courtesy of its 1-0 win over Serbia).

                  g) If Ghana loses by 2 goals or more & Serbia draws, Ghana would be eliminated & Serbia & Germany would qualify.

                  h) If Germany wins they qualify.

                  i) If Germany draws & Serbia wins, Germany would be eliminated & Serbia & Ghana would qualify.

                  j) If Germany draws & Australia wins, they would both have 4 points. Australia would need to win by 8 goals to overtake Germany on goal difference.

                  k) If Germany loses they will be eliminated, irrespective of the result between Serbia & Australia as all results in that game will lead to Germany being overtaken.

                  l) If Serbia wins they qualify.

                  m) If Serbia loses they will be eliminated.

                  n) If Serbia draws & Ghana wins, Serbia & Ghana will qualify & Germany will be eliminated.

                  o) If Serbia draws & Ghana loses by 1 goal see f).

                  p) If Serbia draws & Ghana loses by 2 goals or more see g).

I think I have covered it, but its 2.22am (Richie Benaud would like that) & I'm tired, so please let me know if I haven't covered it all.

France's Nicolas Anelka kicked out of World Cup after insulting coach

France striker Nicolas Anelka was kicked out of the World Cup after reportedly launching a tirade of abuse at coach Raymond Domenech, the French Football Federation (FFF) said.

The 31-year-old Chelsea forward told Domenech to "go screw yourself, dirty son of a whore" in the dressing room after the coach took issue with his first-half performance against Mexico, sports daily L'Equipe claimed.

"Anelka's remarks are totally unacceptable for the FFF, French football and the values it defends," said an FFF statement.

Good old Le Sook at it again.Taking great joy out of those cheats losing!Great effort tonight with ten men,how they didn't get a red was mind numbing!!!Talk about awful officiating that ref from Mali who disallowed that third American goal should never feature in an international again. The amount at stake in this it's time for technology to step in

                        Re: FIFA World Cup 2010

                        Denmark 2 (Bendtner 33, Romendahl 61)

                        Cameroon 1 (Eto'o 10)

How does that leave group E?

                        NED - 6pt - +3
                        JAP - 3pt - 0
                        DEN - 3pt - -1
                        CAM - 0pt - -2

                        The Netherlands have qualified.

                        Cameroon has been eliminated.

The key is the clash between Japan & Denmark. Denmark has to win to qualify, anything less & Japan qualify.

Great work with the scenarios TCD, absolutely fantastic work on this thread from you.

I went to watch the game at Birrarung Marr last night. Wonderful feeling celebrating the Holman goal. Is there anything more instantly gutting in sport than a red card penalty?
