Re: Ashes - First Test
Top first day. Great bowling Sid and to get through that tricky session batting was vital.
Personally, I think that was a very fortunate day. MJ was rubbish, we dropped catches... We've got to momentum now and need to kick on with the bat cause I'm not sure how we'll go getting 20 wickets when without individual brilliance like we saw today. A first up win to take advantage of Sid's day will set us up.
Let's not forget Cardiff however... (where BTW I am today!)Comment

Re: Ashes - First Test
Doesn't do a lot with the ball but to me he's always looked at his best when he pitches it up.
Great effort and I take great joy in Siddle sticking it up Geoff NSW Lawson who described Siddle as a battler ! I like Bollinger and can see Johnson making way for him.
Johnson's arm is to low hence the ball gets sprayed everywhere
Great first day and credit to the selectors and Ponting for playing Doherty and SiddleComment

Re: Ashes - First Test
I must admit, today's efforts surprised me. I thought the Poms would get on top from Day 1. I was not confident in our attack to make regular enough breakthroughs all the way through the innings.
I still thought that Siddle looked the only one hitting enough consistent lines today to trouble the Poms. Johnson looked ineffectual, and apart from early on Hilfy didn't seem to be troubling the batsmen.
Thank goodness for Siddle ripping the Poms apart and taking the pressure off our batsmen somewhat. As a unit our top order hasn't been in any great form, and we really need Watson and Katich to get on top in the first session tomorrow, If we could get to lunch only 1 down for 100, we would be in a fantastic position.Comment

Re: Ashes - First Test
Earlier in the day he took Siddle off after a 4 over spell where he took two wickets and replaced him with Johnson. For some reason Ponting wont press home an advantage and apply pressure. They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.Comment

Re: Ashes - First Test
See it's not rocket science. Pitch the ball up and let it do the work.
It's only ever late swing that troubles world class batsmen. Drop it even a bit short or wide or and they'll tonk you all over the park. They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.Comment

Re: Ashes - First Test
Andreson is going to be a big danger to Ponting as well. Especially if it's a bit overcast. Anderson is about the best swing bowler in the world ATM and Ponting is having trouble with the ball that swings across his body toward slip. They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.Comment

Re: Ashes - First Test
Siddle basically saved Australia on that first day (although I can't imagine CA thanking Victoria or anything). Imagine if Bolly had played instead -- I'm not saying he would have been bad, but he wouldn't have taken 6/40. England would have reached 300+ and been well ahead on this pitch -- it's going to quicken up today and jump around a bit so the Aussie middle order better sharpen up quicksmart.Comment

A Victorian got 6 for so who really cares if the likes of Hussey & North get shown up for the washed-up hacks they are or have become.
And if all else fails our batting all-rounder in MJ will surely come to the rescue.Comment
