Hodge has retired from 4-day cricket such that he can concentrate on the shorter versions of the game (T20 & OD).

He retired hurt in the recent OD game a couple of days ago with a suspected broken finger. But he was able to bat again in the second innings of the match, so I think he must be alright.

        Oh, hadn't heard this.

Hodgey must have kicked a black cat standing under a ladder -- the main reason for him not playing more ODIs (apart from the idiot captain and selectors) is that the few times he has been called up he's hurt himself days out from the game, or even in the dressing room before the game! Never had the continuity he needed to establish himself in the international arena.

          This just on Cricinfo:

''We've just received a comment from Dr. Nick Peirce, England's Chief Medical Officer, who says: "Stuart has a torn abdominal muscle and as such will take no further part in the current Ashes tour of Australia. Given the nature of the injury Stuart has been ruled out of the forthcoming ODI series against Australia as well. Stuart will return to England shortly to commence a rehabilitation programme and we expect him to make a full recovery in time for the World Cup next year."

Yep, that was the one I was thinking of.

Simon Katich also has a partially torn achilles tendon. There's a fair chance he'll miss the rest of the series with that injury.

9 for now, Bollinger & Siddle remaining. I'll give 'em 2 overs max.

Radar shows the rain is 1/2 an hour away. That's about 29 minutes too late.

Surely this would have to be North's last Test too.

Probably - though would you play Doherty in Perth? Unless they bring in Hauritz, they might have to play North to bowl spin.

                            This is embarassing

I would bring in Smith, bat him at six and play four quicks. The quick to come in would be Cameron. Hughes also to come in to replace Katich.
