Great day for the Aussies with the ball and a reasonable day with the bat.

The four pacemen might come back to bite us but Johnsons return to form with the ball is a huge step forward to us. I'll be the first to admit I thought it was a bad decision to select him but he has more than done his job.

Rare great day for the national side .Mitchell Johnson was superb ,he's a massive problem for the opposition when he gets that inswinger working.
Just out of interest weren't the Barmy Army silent!Disgraceful from Clarke and the complete lack of discipline and control warrants a swift kick up the arse. It's a test match and the lack of concentration and fight in tough conditions was pathetic.Wouldn't be counting my chickens yet as big totals have been run down at the venue, and a tendency to collapse is still possible

Most of us including me thought he should have played a shield match.

Great to be on top at this stage but we need to keep this going and get at least 400 ahead. Ponting and Clarke a worry and Hughes not up to it.

With Katich out I'm not sure other options we have at the top of the order. Perhaps we need to stick with Hughes for the balance of the series regardless.

Klinger and Marsh have missed some opportunities and I don't think there is any recognised top order batsman in the right sort of form.

Could open up with Khawja, has done a bit of it for NSW and neither Klinger nor Marsh open up for their state sides so he should be right up there with them

Getting good results doesn't always make you right. The selectors have basically said they don't care about form by selecting him and that is a dangerous precedent to set.

Having said that thank whichever higher power you look to that he was selected. unbelievable bowling performance and once that put Australia from a certain loss to a great chance to win.

Disagree it's everything to do with results.
Got him in the nets and looked at the mechanics of his action and fixed the problem.
Different way to do it but his form reflects the fortunes of our team

Interesting just watching the S.Africav India series Jacques Kallis has borrowed Bollinger and Ricky's raccoon. Nice new feathers for Jacques

                      This^^

Has Cosgrove been opening all season or did it just started yesterday?

We could put any of a number of players at the top of the order but I would think Khawaja's best chance is to bat 4 , 5 or 6 until he establishes himself in the side.

That is an extremely short sighted and IMO silly way to look at it. it's like saying if you bet on west coast to beat Collingwood in Melbourne and WC win it was a smart decision. It wasn't smart but you got lucky and won. you should be happy that you won but you should also realise deep down that you made the wrong decision and got bailed out. Or in poker playing J2 against AA and winning. again stupid thing to do but if you win you get the money / result, still not the smart/correct option.

Thinking that form can be turned around in the nets is laughable. How many players "train the house down" but then come out and can't perform because the nets / training track is a different kettle of fish?

further more if it is simply the mechanics of his action, what exactly happened in the past 2 weeks that didn't happen in the past year and a bit? Did we previously think his action was OK despite him bowling crap for a year?

Hussey to open, drop Ponting to 6.

Lets face it horses for courses, perfect pitch for Johnson.
We all know games can be decided at the toss of a coin, the same way bowlers are great for some pitches and not others.

I'm not sure how much of it he has done for Tassie but he has always been seen as an opener in county cricket for Glamorgan but didnt do much of it with the Redbacks. I'm fairly sure he opened up when he played those one day internationals as well.
