Bang on. She had a poor preparation due to shoulder surgery and did fantastically well to even get to the games, let alone make 2 finals. Give her a flawless preparation and I'd back her to win 2 golds in the IM's.

All jokes aside, At what point could you be critical enough to say, he lossed by 0.01sec yet I noticed facial hair on his face. I know it is getting a bit silly but these factors will start to play on his mind, it would drive you insane coming within 0.01 of a second.
So I guess he could ask himself "was I 100% prepared?" "did I do everything I possibly could to win?" even if that comes down to having a shave before the race.

Exciting win by Sally this morning.
Really enjoyed watching David Rudisha's 800mtr race

And Anna Mears just topped it off nicely.

Great day for Australia claiming 2 gold medals and to restore some pride back. Overall you can look at it and say we have down quite well with the swimming letting us down a bit but I'm sure they tried the best they could as anyone competing at the Olympics.

In the Football Brazil and Mexico will play off in the Gold medal match with Brazil going in as favourites. Japan and South Korea will play off in the Bronze medal match.

Meares and Pearson were class, really enjoyed seeing those get it done.

                BMX starts tonight

Steve Hooker's tilt will be interesting. He is coming from a long way back, amazing given that he is the defending champ.

Im not even sure what you can say about Steve Hooker, has a defending champion ever had such poor poor poor lead in form?

He would go close for sure.

Not sure if any follows the pole vaulting that much, but is it an age thing with Hooker or a combination of confidence and age?

With Magnussen it was suggested perhaps his finishing technique, as in touching the wall wasn't perfect, he could have had his hand a different angle so he could hit the wall harder so it would register when he its the wall rather than taking a 0.01 second longer to register as the rest of his weight follows through.

Re: London 2012 Olympic Games Thread

Have been enjoying many hours of viewing the games so far (I can sleep in). Absolutely loved the men's weightlifting - the sheer will and determination was absolute theatre. The women's pole vault final, hampered by blustering conditions, was fascinating - loved seeing Cuba do so well sandwiched between two of the "super powers", only missing gold on a count back. Synchronised swimming - how can all you fellows not enjoy watching those shapely legs and lovely feet waving in the air? They are super fit women and all the while they have to smile :-)

The men's 100 m final, all finishing under 10 seconds, was mind blowing. And young Solomon posting a PB to make the 400 m final was great stuff. Oscar Pistorius, inspirational.

Interesting interview with Meares about how her new coach laid out a two year plan to knock Pendleton off in that final.

I'd suggest a fair bit of it was dedicated to track standing, as that was where Pendleton cracked. A colleague of mine pointed out that the last time Meares beat Pendleton was using the same technique, but between the two races she never used it again.

Another colleague mentioned that saying Anna Meares sounds like Adam Ears, and now I can't stop hearing it that way.

I know many are against BMX' inclusion, but I love it. It's fast, tough, competitive and dangerous.

I'd say the weightlifting as a whole was very entertaining, women also. The crowd seemed to get behind every lifter, willing the bar up. Theatre is a really good descrtipition. Loved it.

Well done to Anna and Sally, silver together on the same day last Olympics and one better this year.
Also our sailing team has been brilliant.
Magnussen could learn alot from listening to Sally and Anna.

I think you are being a touch harsh on Magnussen. To perform they way he did after the relay was a great effort. He has learnt a great lesson in only a few days.
