    What an athlete
Amazing athlete Usain Bolt is. Well done also to the Australian Solomon for qualifying for his race.

Gold for the Australians in the sailing and another on the way. Great effort. Sally Pearson in the Hurdles is an expected gold medal. The Water Polo team might get a medal as well. The biggest let down for us was the swimming team who just did not apply themselves.

I don't think you can say this unless you know this from some sort of inside information. They have trained for the past 4 years and gave it all they could. They were just not good enough.

I agree bornadog that they just weren't good enough but a few in that team I believe did not bring the right attitude. The ones who did and did the best they could well done.

Rice, Darcy, just to name a few. I am not saying its the whole swimming team at all but just a few individuals. Maybe it's just that our media places far to much expectation on them and that was probably the best they could do with this team.

Robert De Castella didn't miss them in his commentary of the marathon. Pretty much straight out said many were just there for the party in the athletes village after their events and that if a medal happened to fall their way it would be a bonus. Far too many didn't have anywhere near the level of commitment to their training required to be successful and just expected success to come their way based on the success enjoyed by their predecessors who had the required level of commitment.

He said China were improving at a rate of knots faster than Australia due to their work ethic, and it isn't good enough given they are supported by the Australian tax payers.

He caught Eddie McGuire by surprise who'd given him a little handball expecting a fluffy response.

I believe not showing up in the best condition possible, showed her head wasn't in it.

I don't know about application, but Magnussen and Seebohm were massive disappointments. One a red hot favorite, the other broke the wr in the semis...should have done better.

If those two (and the mens relay) had performed to expectations we walk away with 4 golds and there is no hysteria.
What should I tell her? She's going to ask.

Magnussen was a finger nail away from Gold.

Magnussen was a little disappointing in the times that he swam, but he was only beaten by 0.01secs in his pet event.... 0.02secs difference and he is a hero... now he is just a bum.

Seebohm swam out of her skin in the SF and was only 0.29sec away from this time in the final. The fact that the sepo chick improved her time by 0.8sec between SF and final must be taken into consideration too.

Besides the mens 4 x 100m relay the only disappointment was Jones's attitude, her past is well and truly behind her, but the 'just happy to be here' attitiude is very disappointing considering she was hoping to provide an example to the younger members of the squad.

Rice turned up in good shape (evidenced by the bikini photo), but injuries over the past few years caught up with her.
