Only thing I was spewing about with the road race was that the Khazakstani national anthem wasn't the one used in Borat
"Look at me mate. Look at me. I'm flyin'"

I don't understand road cycling from a tactics POV so I can't see what his problem is. Why are other competitors supposed to race the way that supports your style?

      Sounds like excuses.

He thought it was his god given right to win the Gold.

I for one was so happy when he didn't win.

That 4 x 100 relay from our men was a bit of a let down. Blokes clearly shattered at not firing their best shot. The aus media and such will rip them apart. Hopefully Magussen can deliver later on.

Very poor effort and from the 2nd leg they were well off the pace. The French were brilliant.

Did Australia get the order wrong leading off with Magnussen?

I think it was hoped he would give them a big lead that they would be able to sustain for the rest of the race.

It's very news worthy, the favourite failing in a sport I like.

I think that he should have been the 2nd leg to help make time in the middle of the race or or the last to bring them home and Eamon the 2nd leg.

                  Great race by the French.

Did you mention the winner or just focus on the negative comments? If you love the sport you could balance things I would have thought.

I think you are being a little unfair here to Chops. This story is a massive issue in the UK and websites, blogs etc have gone viral on the comments made by Cavendish.

Here is a sample of comments:

Mark Cavendish's hopes of winning the Olympics cycling road race were dashed by a combination of a strength-sapping course and a lack of help from other teams

Would have been preferable if it were Gerrans perhaps in the breakaway. O'Grady, for all his heroics, is not the cyclist he was (taking nothing away from him. He's an out and out champ for mine), so he would have been less chance to win in a sprint.

But you're absolutely spot on. Why on earth would we help them chase? O'Grady may have been an outsider to win it in the breakaway, but better to roll the dice and see how he goes than to try and get Goss closer, all the while aiding the brits as well.

Seems like you've got a pretty fair handle on it to me.

I think Chops is right in this. It's a pretty big story and well worth discussing.

I have never found it in me to like Cavendish. He seems like a whiny little sook to me. If anything, his ire should have been directed at the tactics employed by his own team. I read somehwere today that they had a plan A, and no plan B. Shame on them.

I would have preferred Vinokourov not won also. He may have done his time etc, but I can't stand that convicted cheats get to go back (and in this case win gold) and do it all again without any further censure.

I don't know what a suitable punishment is though. It's a bit weird to me.

No one mentioned France won the 4x100 swim yet mentioned Australia failing, are they being negative and not balanced either?

The French did very well in winning the 4x100 men's swimming final. We were a let down after high hopes of another Gold for us.

                              Yes he is a sook.

Vinkourov is not very liked on the tour as he has been unrepentant regarding his drug taking. Not a popular win at all.

Weightlifting makes for great TV doesn't it? Seems like sheer will, all training they do and it really comes down to being able provide one massive effort. I really enjoy it, my favourite aspect of any sport, stripped back and given its time in the sun.
