Magnussen seems like a bit of a wanker after reading his comments during the relay at the WC.

Great sport, shouldn't be in the Olympics.

Definitely a tool, but I didn't mind him cracking the shits the other night. At least it showed that he gave a crap. Other swimmers have come across as just being happy to be there.

It seems like the worst prepared swimming squad in years. What went wrong?

          Totally agree Comrade.
Although I'm in the same boat as the rest of the nation, wanting to see domination from the relay team but now feeling ripped off, I do like that he showed that their performance was not good enough.

And then we have Emily Seebohm bawling her eyes out, wondering if her family still love her....

Fair dinkum these prima donnas are a good reminder to myself of why I don't love the Olympics.

I think Liesel Jones has been unfairly maligned in this whole weight-gate saga, but it was just strange to hear her say how rapt (her words) she was to finish fifth in her final. Fifth! And Stephanie Rice has also been quoted as saying she'd be happy with 'just' a medal.

Not the words of relentless, uncompromising competitors.

To be fair to Rice, she's had an interrupted preparation due to shoulder surgery so she's coming from a long way back. She has proven to be a fierce competitor at this level in the past - not sure why she cops the party girl criticism from the general public when, unlike many better credentialed Australian swimmers in recent history, she has stared down and beaten the world's best at Olympic level before.

I agree that she's had a less than ideal lead up, but she had resigned herself to losing before she stepped in the pool.

Kim Crow (daughter of Max Crow Essendon/Footscray) is heading for a gold medal in rowing. She has a chance in the single and double sculls with some great performances so far.

If so I read today that they had the two slowest splits out of the four relay members in that final.
They were the two slowest times - but given that Magnussen was the lead off swimmer - its usually accepted that the lead off swimmer has a 0.7sec disadvantage (time-wise) against the other legs, to allow for reaction time from the start as opposed to diving off when the previous swimmer finishes. So with that taken into account - Magnussen was still the quickest - albeit, slower than he usually races.

Roberts was really bad. With the allowance of 0.7secs he ended up over a second slower than in his trial to make the team.

I think the race got really out of hand for the 4 guys. Magnussen didn't lead - and the other 3 panicked.

Great relief to see Magnussen get some mojo back this morning.

Fantastic win by the Kookaburras over Spain, 5-0 to help erase the Hoodoo from Beijing.

Interesting moment in the first half with one of the umpires shoving a Spaniard who was confronting the other umpire. Plenty will be said about the review system in place in London.

Mens 8 rowing last night missed a medal by .7 of a second with ex bulldog Cam McKenzie-McHarg part of the 8.

With a name like that he was born to row.

Whatever is debated about his games, Magnussen's bravado has really proven false.
Hopefully he can go back and take a good hard look at himself.
