More desperate for middle order players anyway so its probably a moot point. Joe Burns should be next in and I think has the tools to be a very good player

Rogers consistently goes to England and puts up massive numbers, knows the conditions as well as any Aussie.

Cowan at the moment looks like a decent Shield player who had a hot patch but isn't at international standard...In saying that I wouldn't be picking Rogers, its the type of selection England were famous for, bring back Brian Close, nearly call up Mark Ramprakash for the 2009 Ashes, Australian cricket has always moved forward for better or worse.
I'd be happy enough if it was felt he was the best option, as I said his age wouldn't bother me given the condensed run of matches we have coming up. I've just never felt Rogers is the sort of player that could step up and be anything other than an average test player. I have nothing to base that on other than feel it has to be said. Cowan was only ever an average state player who had a good patch that would always struggle when going through an off patch. I remember Lantern lambasting me some time back for insisting players with limited ability struggle when not in the hottest of hot form as their natural lack of talent eventually shines through. Cowan was and still is case in point

I couldn't care about age at this point. Let's get the best batmen in the side and make all the others earn a spot.
All the ironing aside, apparently he is. The Vic boys were less than happy about bringing in an ageing interstate player but he quickly won the boys over and is much loved within the team.

So does a potentially average test player trump a proven average domestic and sub-par test player?

As for the "good bloke" aspect, I thought that was a bit of a knock on him when our test side was full of pissheads and bogans.
        TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.

Potentially, but they both have a real meh factor about them either way.

Agree with Rogers. There was a time when the Aussies could afford not to play guys who didn't fit . Not any more

As do the vast majority of Australian bats. It' pretty depressing at the moment, isn't it.

Joe Burns lads, I've been tooting his horn for a while and he needs to find some consistency but he has a pull shot like Ponting. Will be a very good player

Meanwhile a series you thought would be a doddle for England is turning into a real battle.
Kiwis taking it right up to them.

Hopefully Lyon picks up a fair here, still our best spinner heading into the Ashes for mine and traditionally drop off spin has always been generally successful in England

Game on. Lyon has 5, bowled beautifully

                        Really pleasing for Nathan Lyon.
They're masters in those conditions, and a good confidence boost.
If Ahmed's citizenship does arrive I'd have Lyon and him as the two spinners.
If not I reckon they'll take Agar.

7 for Lyon restricts India to a lead of 10. Well done young man. Good luck batting last on this, 150 is defendable

Maxwell opening with Warner, not sure if theres something up with Cowan or they want runs quick on a pitch that will be tough to survive on

Got to be aggressive dont we, it's going to be tough to make runs so might as well try to make them quick.

Fantastic effort by Lyon, hopefully will give him a lot of confidence going into the second innings.

This last day and a half has been very good test match cricket, spiteful and aggressive. Nothing wrong with this sort of culture
