Smith got his half century but then edged one going for the big drive. Somewhat disappointing, but with the way he bats you've gotta expect that sometimes.
Still the best of our batsman.

5-113 with Haddin and Hughes at the crease.
Haddin just clean bowled by Swann, disappointing.

Haddin bowled 2nd ball via a loose waft, lasted one bask more than many predicted I guess. Quality leader though.

captain and vice captain 1 run between then in the 1st innings of an ashes series after we bowl the Poms for a low score of 215. their effort puts us on the back foot and now underdogs.

Doubt Border or Waugh would have got out so meekly, regardless of the quality of the opposition.

Don't want to question the coach, but he seems to be the only backer of Haddin.

              DAMN
Siddle goes, just a standard tail ender's dismissal, hanging the bat outside off and edged through to Prior.

7 down, need Starc to pull another amazing knock out of the bag

Can't understand how Haddin gets a game. This bloke has never made a run when we have needed it! Anyone can come in at 5/300 & make runs.

                  Wade: 12 tests, av 34.6, 2 centuries, 3 halfs.
                  Haddin: 44 test, av 35, 3 centuries, 10 halfs.
                  Hughes: 24 tests, av 33, 3 centuries, 6 halfs.
                  Cowan: 17 test, av 33, 1 century, 6 halfs.
                  Smith: 7 tests, av 32, 4 halfs.

Wade seems a little hard done by on stats alone. Can he play as a specialist bat?

Haddin has never made any runs when it's backs against the wall. Ever. By contrast Wade has made several contributions with the willow under tough circumstances. Why on earth pick the 36yo underachiever over the 25yo?

Is it his work behind the stumps?
Commentators carrying on like Haddin is tough customer. No idea these commentators sometimes, just give me one time this bloke ever made a score when the going was tough!

Cowan, Clarke, Haddin = 1 run

Siddle, Starc, Patto = 3 runs

The bowlers can be forgiven, their job is to take wickets.

Clarke can be forgiven cause he got a peach of delivery that would have gotten Bradman out.

What was Cowan doing I'll never know & Haddin does what Haddin has always done.

Smith was disappointing. If you make a start like that you don't go out on a delivery like that.
