Is there a sport where former players comment on everything like Cricket?
Just about every ex player is dial a quote.
Major League Baseball. Except MLB players are not adverse to confronting former players about comments made during commentary.
Re the Aleem Dar howler - surely the 3rd umpire should overturn such a howler, considering they check for no balls after almost every dismissal these days.
As for Broad, if you smash the ball to 1st slip and don't walk off, you are as big a cheat as someone who claims a dropped catch or a keeper who knocks off the bails with their pads.
I don't mind the non-walk ... Other than Gilchrist not many batsmen walk even when it's that blatant. I do mind the umpire's non-decision ... Disgraceful Dar !!
If Clarke didn't use up their last review on a stupid lbw that was ridiculously going down leg, broad wouldn't be there now. Fair enough dar made an error, but that's why the review was brought in..to stop the howler.
We really struggled to penetrate with our bowling against a defensive-minded opponent. Not the first time that's happened in recent years. England dug in and only lost 4 for 315 after the initial first 2 wickets.
The Broad non-decision was a complete shocker but we only have ourselves to blame for wasting our reviews earlier in the innings. We got lucky yesterday with Agar stumping and Trott inside edge, but it certainly evened out today.

Precisely. Hopefully this is an instructive lesson for Clarke, to remember that the reviews were brought in to prevent howlers, not to be used to try and jag a wicket on iffy LBW decisions. The one he used for Pattinson's shout for LBW was a shocker. It was always going down legside and even the most optimistic captain should've realised it was at best only going to clip the leg stump.
Lesson, use the reviews judiciously.
Dar made a big mistake, but I can see what he was thinking. The ball clearly also came off Haddin's glove after hitting Broad's bat. He must've thought that was the reason for the deflection to 1st slip. His error was that he didn't first give it out, and let Broad decide if he was on the receiving end of a shocker and request a review. No doubt Broad would not have even bothered.
Isnt there a provision for the third umpire to overrule real howlers he sees on the DRS that the central umpire might miss?
I dont blame Broad because I'd have done exactly the same thing in his place (and taken every opportunity to remind the Australians about it) and Dar probably thought the only deflection came off Haddin's glove. Surely the third umpire should have intervened?
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

Yep, in real time that was a plausible explanation for what could have been seen from the naked eye. Mind you, the deflection off the bat was equivalent to a thick edge so Dar really should have seen it initially.
Haddin spilling this one (albeit Clarke catching the rebound), dropping Pieterson yesterday and also spilling a chance to dismiss Bell have all been completely glossed over. If Wade spilt 3 chances in a tight test, that champion for the old boys club Ian Healy would not have stopped talking about it. The tool hasn't uttered a word about his old mate Iron Gloves Haddin.
