GWS were probably us last year, first finals experience then the next year it all comes together , I hope not but that's how it usually works.
God I hope we have the wood on them like Geelong do on us.

AFL Brownlow medallist Adam Cooney trains with WRFL club Spotswood

IT WAS a sight to warm the hearts of Spotswood supporters.

Speculation has been rife during the off-season that Brownlow medallist Adam Cooney would join the Western Region Football League Division 1 outfit following his AFL retirement.

The 30-year-old, who played 250 games for the Western Bulldogs and Essendon during a decorated 13-year career at the top level, made an unexpected appearance at the opening night of the Woodsmen’s pre-season campaign on Monday.

But Spotswood coach Anthony Eames said Cooney was yet to put pen to paper.

“Adam’s still got some work commitments to sort out, so that’s fine,” Eames said.

“We haven’t pressure him at all and he’ll make up his mind as to what he does.

“It was great that he turned up. I actually didn’t expect him to be there, but he knew we were training.

“It was good for the young kids to experience being around a player of that calibre.”

The Woodsmen, who contested eight consecutive grand finals between 2007 and 2014 for four premierships, finished in fifth spot this year and was eliminated in the opening week of finals.

Cooney’s son Jaxon plays juniors for Spotswood, his children attend school in the area and the family lives locally.

“Across the board, I think it’s a fantastic fit for the WRFL,” Eames said.

“Hopefully Adam can play and hopefully we’re the club he chooses to play with.

“What a guy like that can provide for our young group, along with a Tom Langlands and Murray Boyd for example, is invaluable.”

The Woodsmen have signed gun midfielder Wayne Patak, who has returned to the club after a stint with EDFL powerhouse Aberfeldie.

“It just gives us strength around the footy that the other guys can really learn from,” Eames said of the premiership player.

“He’s a terrific fella, a responsible young man, so I look forward to working with him.”

Hmmm. Tim Walsh a few years back, now Pearce. Sounds like the fireys have changed their recruiting to ensure better footy talent for the annual game against Police. I'm starting to wonder where Fish Mullet's loyalties are.

There's heaps, it's been ridiculously busy.

Doesn't stop people from thinking that Career Firefighters are unnecessary. I disagree of course. I've never taken 40 minutes to get on scene.

I don't think Tim played footy this year - though I could be wrong. He's a pretty good basketball player too.
