Bold call but I would happily trade the talented Nathan Saunders for Wilkie.

They'll absolutely ask for two firsts, or Sanders and a first, as a starting point. But where do we think it finishes? We can't afford not to get the deal done, if Wilkie does ask for a trade.
If we can get him for two firsts, and they are our pick 10 (sliding to 13ish?) And a future first (presumably a mid teens one) then thatd be a win imo.

I should leave it alone but you're not right

I'd be hoping for a future 2nd or 3rd back, just to help us with points for next year. But yep, I'd be pushing the button on that trade for Wilkie.

Buku as well, would prefer a future 2nd instead of a pick 44 odd this year. I suspect our ND picks in 2026 will be a higher priority for us than they are this year.

Damien Barrett said on his podcast, Butters and Dogs table were very friendly last night at Brownlow.
As much as it’d be nice this year, he’ll be cheaper as a free agent next year

              Is he unrestricted next year?

We may have a tough choice next off-season, points for Levi or Picks for Butters.

                He's restricted.

Is Levi meant to be a gun? I'm taking Butters all day.

If Port finish next season in the bottom six it might be better for them not to match. Would they prefer a top 6 pick or 2 mid teen picks?

In any case it'd be a bold move for Port to match any offer for Butters. That's a lot of $$$ for someone who doesn't want to be there.

Mitch Cleary saying the same on his podcast. I will not mind turning Baz into Butters tbh

He'll be fine. I think it's silly to think about trading him.
It’s not that I’m keen to push him out, I’m a fan of Sanders. I’m a fan of winning premierships more though and if he’s the cost to get Saints to come to the table on Wilkie, then I’d consider it. Butters being in play this year or next is another point to consider on Sanders.

It’s not really that we’d be pushing him out either, it’s the Boyd playbook. We go for Wilkie, Saints woo Sanders with midfield time and a big contract and he requests a trade. Not saying he will do that, but that’s how it works not us saying hey do you want Sanders? Which we wouldn’t do

If we can get Wilkie and Butters I’d do it without second thought, only way we’d be able to pull that off is giving up something and Sanders is by far the most expendable. I like the kid but I wouldn’t lose that much sleep over it to be honest, if this is what it costs you do it

Ideally we’d get him as a FA, that’d be best case scenario but Port may just match and force a trade anyway. They’ve got the cash to do that and it doesn’t sound like Butters hates the place just may prefer to come back to vic. So think they’d take that risk for a better deal.

Also I think if it’s on offer you just get it done, not only can he help us win a flag next year, but there’s also so much variable to leave it to next year if it’s a genuine possibility right now. We’ve seen this all before and if he comes out of contract next year and has Geelong, Hawks etc all over him. Who’s to say we can keep his attention? I’m not taking that risk to save on a couple of magic beans (first round draft picks)

That's a big risk for Port though. Matching and having him leave via the preseaaon draft for nothing.

Not sure i want to loose Sanders but if it ment getting Wilkie i think i'd go for it .
St Kilda are in a pretty good postion here really , if Wilkie wants to go the Saints get Sanders plus our 1st round selection , then two years down the track if he becomes a good footballer and Tazi go hard for him , then the Saints could possibly get maybe two 1st rounders for him from Tazi , that would be pretty good bussiness , they get something like three 1st rounders in the end .

Geelong are too preoccupied with Worpel , Curnow and possibly Marshall. We need to strike THIS YEAR. Cannot give Geelong a sniff next year. If they get their sights on him then he’s pretty much 90% there. They rarely miss their man.

and re: Wilkie ? If it meant sanders then so be it.

if I was saints I’d be going full hog for sanders with a 2 year deal and then when he goes to Tassie, they might just give up a 2 picks in the top 10 suiting saints a lot more than say our first this year
I will never see #16 the same!!
