Agree. Really should not be going back to Paul.

That?s a name from the past, I thought he was ok as a player too.

Why? I've got no personal preference but wasn't Groves successful and only stepped away to spend more time with his family? If the club think he's the best candidate I can't see any issue.

He was our premiership coach as well.

            Ok I'll be the one.

History of drug abuse and stalking is this someone we want at the club in an important role?

I'm a live and let live kind of guy, however, I would certainly be concerned that a stressful environment may not be commensurate to good outcomes for her.

I'm risk averse, and as the head coach I'd be worried.
In an assistant role for a couple of years I think that would be a good phase back in.

I'd not want Bomber Thompson doing it either.

Good points , the stalking one isn’t good after being sued for not keeping an eye on what was happening at the club . Admittedly years ago but we probably wouldn’t want to go the path with him. It’s not a good look.

It was pretty tame ish - loads of texts and turning up a lot but still I worry about the main gig and stress. However if the powers that be think she's up to it I'll support her. I really can't see that being the case though.
I just think a slow phase back in would be best for everyone if that's going to happen.

                    Re: Aflw 2022/2023

We simply need to get the best coach for the sake of the players we have on the list. Ideally it would be Craig Starcevich who's a standout performer but if it's Dani Laidley or Paul Groves it should be based solely on what they can do for the club and players.
Laidley's been out of the game for a long time so we need to be sure that she's still relevant at the AFLW level. Groves has some runs on the board but would need to highlight why he's good to go again.
Like GrantGhost, I'm risk adverse when it comes to senior coaches. Lets just bring in the best candidate whoever that is.

Must say I am confused he has become a she but I think has a female partner now .
Sounds like cross dressing to me . We had a cross dresser in melton many years ago , very well known, didn’t care it was as obvious , would wear all the women’s clothes ,married 5 kids I believe, make up etc but the hairy legs were never worried about. Each to their own.

Ledge, please do not get into this sort of discussion on here. Dani wants to be identified as a lady, that should be good enough for all of us.

We've come a long way since then and as a society I think we are progressive enough to accept that this is the person Danni is now and maybe always has been and the mature amongst us are nothing but supportive and happy for her.

That's not at all the reason I don't think she should be the coach I don't really want to discuss her transition. More her creds and if she's the right person considering recent events and lack of experience in the aflw program or at any level in women's coaching as far as I know. (someone smarter correct me).

Has Groves been coaching anywhere in his time away?
Surely we have some other capable female candidates out there in the pathways? Bec Goddard is free...
Agree we just need to get in the best candidate on l fronts. Take our time too.

It looks like he's been active in the coaching and leadership sphere.

He took up a position running the sports department at Parade College before becoming director of sport at St Bernard’s College, while he also coached St Bernard’s senior men in the VAFA between 2020 and 2022.
Last year, he was handed the reins of the VAFA’s representative women’s side in its annual interstate match.
