I really wouldn't have a clue on how you fix the problem but the competition needs to get better and a full time career might be better carrot growing up than one where you can miss a whole season with a 10 week injury.
Could the women's comp benefit from the old under 19's, reserves comps type setup and the AFL support the clubs to fast track juniors.
But I said I really don't have a clue apart from them needs to be more hands on.

They just need to play more football. There are 19 year olds who gets drafted to aflw and play 10 games of footy for the year.

They should be playing at least some of the vflw season (at least until the AFL extends the length of the aflw season).

We've still got half teams full of non-traditional footballers who did not go up playing footy. They are cross over athletes who have been playing AFL for 3-4 years.

The competition is improving each year because we are starting to have an influx of top draftees who have played footy since Auskick and have a good level of skill behind them. Inside the next 5 years the number of cross over athletes will reduce significantly and you'll have teams full of players who have played footy from the start, like Brisbane and North, who just eat footy and want to be at the club.

Yep absolutely invest in grass roots junior girls footy and make those competitions stronger to help develop the skills and make the pathways clearer.

Yeah - I get that. But just doing something over and over again does make you better at it.

Playing a game where you get between 6-10 possessions...is that really helping your ability to be clean with the ball and make good decisions under pressure?

Simple. Grow numbers ar junior level to increase the talent base. The girls program is growing 10x faster than our boys program at our club. We nearly have as many girl teams as we do boys teams now. 8 years ago there were no girls.

Numbers help, but if it was all about numbers India would be a top 3 Olympic Nation.

There is more too it than that and whilst participation remains a pretty simple 'measuring stick' (and what gets measured gets managed) none of that is helping the end product.

The Western Bulldogs have informed Keely Coyne, Elizabeth Snell, Aurora Smith and Jorja Borg that they will not be offered AFLW contracts next season.

Coyne was drafted with Pick 29 in 2022, but spent this season on the sidelines continuing to recover from an ACL rupture sustained in 2023.

Snell, taken with Pick 27 in 2021, did not play a senior game this year, while Smith (Pick 25 in 2021 from Murray Bushrangers) played two games this season.

Borg arrived via the most recent Draft, playing six games before an ACL injury ended her season. The Club will continue to support her rehabilitation into 2025.

Yeah we saw this season that injuries can stack up quickly in AFLW so you can't afford to go into a season a player down. Hopefully she gets another look somewhere after her ACL heals up.

That 2021 draft crop of Snell, Smith and Ling just couldn't put it together.

Not yet it's not but it will be a slow burn. Grassroots girls footy programs need resources for Coach Developers, Girls Football Coordinators, good coaches to keep them in the system, access to role models (AFLW players working in with grassroots clubs).

It's not about numbers but it is about numbers and then having the resources to develop.

Numbers then resources or resources and numbers?

Chicken and the egg they are not mutually exclusive.

No dogs players made the All Australia squad of 40. The other teams without a player nominated were Collingwood (last, 1 win) and GWS (16th 1.5 wins). Based on that it seems a little rough but I don't follow it closely enough. Are there players who were stiff to miss out?
