But Slim as Kruder alludes to, they hit the trade period hard with the Giants last year also. So that is two years in a row. It's an interesting strategy or lack of one.

And Jaksch & Whiley the year before.

Trouble with Carlton is they want a ready made team and fill their list with rejects from other clubs. They are not prepared to develop young talent. Hope they stay at the bottom of the ladder.

They've done it three years in a row, i think it's fantastic. The longer Carlton *!*!*!*! up their list management, the better!

Should this be referred to as a "Richmond Strategy".

They have been drafting too (they took our pick 11 off our hands last year) and it's not like they're targeting 28 year olds.

They're not exactly doing a Collingwood either - Mayne & Wells on big money deals. Bucks trying to save his job.

It's good for the competition for GWS to lose a few players each year. Keep it up I say.

Re: The Moving Rolling De-Listing/Trading Thread 2016

The players that GWS are losing are really surplus to their needs and it's inevitable that they lose good young players wanting greater opportunity. SOS is doing a reasonable job luring the disaffected ones there and it remains to be seen whether that methodology is successful.

I don't think they're doing any worse than hitting the draft after talented young kids and if they can do it and get a decent on-field return then they are fast tracking their rebuild by using players who have at least been in the system for 2-4 years, even though those same players have had limited opportunities.
But then again, I'm an Internet poster and Bevo is a premiership coach so draw your own conclusions.

But they will continue to replace them with more elite talent.

At present GWS have picks 7,15 & 16.. They have Steele, Marchbank, WHE & McCarthy (and possibly others) to off-load which will bring in further high end picks.

The cycle will continue on for many a year to come.

clubs have to get wise and boycott trading with them or at least place a moratorium on trading 1st round pics with them. I know it won't happen but this has to somehow stop as it will ruin the competition.

can you imagine the backlash the AFL would have copped this year had it been a GWS v Swans GF?

I don't think that is completely true. They HAD to lose someone out of their midfield if they wanted to keep the rest...Treloar went out to Collingwood last year. I don't think it is a stretch to say that if Treloar played a couple of weeks back, the Giants probably win. Likewise, I think that they would prefer NOT to lose Marchbank but it is becoming inevitable that one of he and Tomlinson (and maybe both) are going to go. Likewise I think they are going to lose Stewart having already lost Boyd and McCarthy - that is a lot of key position players walking out as well.

You can't keep them all because you can't play them all and you can't pay them all.

The challenge they have is keeping the 'RIGHT' ones. They have clearly bet on Shiel ahead of Treloar so let's see how that turns out.
What should I tell her? She's going to ask.

Dogs winning may have given the AFL a year or two of leeway. In 3 years time when GWS have finished on top and made 3 GFs in a row, the howling will reach fever pitch. In fact, if they dominate next year, it'll be all we hear about.
Our 1954 premiership players are our heroes, and it has to be said that Charlie was their hero.

I like how Eddie wants them out of the draft for a year and yet Collingwood gave 2 x first round picks for Treloar.
If clubs keep paying overs then Mantis is 100% right it will be the gift that keeps on giving.
