Poulter is the other option as a third tall. His been pretty good at vfl.

Im not too worried about not have a recognised second ruck. Most clubs don’t have them. Buku is more than capable.

Faking shit like that while players sre risking suspension is pretty low on the football field. Milk frees all you want but that shit has got to stop! Higgins is nothing but a ****ing cheat for doing it.

I didn't watch the VFL. Did Croft look too far off it? I'd be loathe to disrupt Lobb in the backline if we don't have to.

Poulter not necessarily forward but if you can’t mark it you’re better off applying pressure.

I'm in the Lobb to the forward line again camp as our next best tall forward and a quality 2nd ruck. Would give Buss a debut and play Jones, Buss, JOD as the backs.

VDM or Harmes in for Hynes if available.

My preference is to keep the backline settled insofar as Lobb and Jones. I suppose the option is then, could Buss play a third tall defender role to keep JOD and Buku up front? Is that a mix that gets the job done?

it’s certainly a weaker front half, but allows us a defensive group that’s more settled. As long as we can keep Dale, JJ, Bramble running, it might work?

I am nowhere near close enough to know if Buss would be effective as a third banana defensively and maybe its opponent based rather than every week.

This may also allow us to play Lobb some minutes in ruck if we’ve got Jones and Buss to cover with a JOD/Buku able to swing back for periods?

Its a juggle and suboptimal, but hey, necessity often leads to opportunity and permanent change.

As for other changes, Hynes has had a good taste now and probably goes back to VFL for a few weeks.

If McNeil is injured (looked like a hammy he was pushing through) maybe he’s out for 2-4 weeks also? Hard to say but how he looks and game time support he pushes through for us as best he could be is not going to play next week.

In this case I’d bring in VDM and Baker to round out our mix with some more run and versatility.
Have you heard Butters wants to come to the Dogs?

Croft was nowhere near it on the weekend so I doubt he's up for selection unless Bevo wants a tall for tall sake.

And the previous round he had just one kick. Agree that if picked it's not on displayed form.

I think this for me as well, although I love Lobb at CHB, but it is a logical move with big boys Darcy and Marra missing. JOD looks better back and Buku is more than comfortable forward as well. If you want Lobb as second ruck, them he has to play forward.

If Hogan returns I would prefer Jones and Lobb to be our key backs. If he doesn't it might open up the opportunity to run Lobster forward with Busslinger a chance to come in or JOD to roll back. Naughton partnered with either Lobster, JOD or Buku as key forwards with either JOD or Buku to do the relief ruckwork. If fit VDM and Harmes to replace Hynes who needs a run back in the vfl and possibly McNeil who looked like he was carrying a leg last night.

Taylor, Buckley and Himmelberg would be licking their lips if we went in to a game with Buku and JOD paired up in the forward line.

In: Gardiner, Baker, Laith (if right)
Out: Darcy, Hynes, McNeil (if injured)

I think the Lobb-Jones-JOD trio is good enough to win finals, so I'd be trying pretty desperately to keep them together rather than shift it around.

Gardiner played the forward/second ruck position in pre-season, will give us more in the ruck than Buku and is mature enough to throw himself around. He's not an ideal option, but I'd rather try and get some consistency into our back 6 and he's potentially a good foil for Naughts in a more defensive/decoy role.

I would've picked Croft but he's not quite there.

Hynes has had a good taste but I like Baker as a utility who brings some dash and grit.

I get the sentiment in wanting to keep
Lobb back, I really do but realistically we just cannot go to more make shift forwards. It’s too difficult a position to play in the modern game to be relying on guys like Buku, JOD on top of someone like Naughty who isn’t the most natural fwd and then all these other mids/utility types playing forward.

We’re missing Darcy, Marra & Cody now - the 3 best actual forwards on our list, and probably realistically 120+ goals a season gone. We just can’t make that up with Bukus & Harmes types.

Lobb is an experienced & smart forward and yes it sucks because he’s found his form down back but we realistically don’t have any other choice now. I do think his time in defence will hold him well, he’s confident and comfortable at the club now and I think his forward game will return to a decent level. He’s not the forward we saw early last year, he’s better than that but didn’t really seem like he had clicked with the team yet, that’s changed now and I think whilst he probably won’t be as good as he is as a defender he’ll be better than he was last time fwd. id expect 30 goals from here if he plays rest of the season and we need that.

in short, turning to Buku, Gardner and JOD with the way we enter our 50 and our game style is just not winning us any games of footy let’s be honest. They don’t know how to play forward, they’ll all get in each others way and it’ll just be a shitshow

Turning to Jones, JOD & Buss down back is a risk, but it’s by FAR the highest upside option left for us and at least it starts to develop our future key defender situation which is mighty important because Jones and Lobb won’t be there forever. JOD looked fantastic yesterday, I think he’s ready to play CHB. Lobb & Naughty fwd is a balanced mix especially with how good Lobb is in the ruck, and Bont, Kennedy, Davo, Williams spending time as the 3rd tall. With those two we dont need another tall forward the balance is almost perfect to be honest.

With Darcy going down. For mine it’s ether buku or Gardner. I’m happy ether way.

lath for Hynes as this helps the forward line.

Baker or Harms for McNiel if he isn’t right.

Looking forward - Naughton, Darcy and JUH. It will be the envy of everyone.
