I'm on board with all this, don't really rate Gags as an AFL player at this stage but when you look at his healthy competition for a spot:
- Duryea - too old, can only play one position, no speed
- Luke Kennedy - young, had his best VFL game on the weekend, will likely be pushing Gags out by end of season, hasn't played backline.
- Jaques - similar to Kennedy
- Tony Scott - the best alternative imo, but has had injury troubles so might not have been ready. Will be putting pressure on.
- Hynes, Dolan - young, had chances but no impact, can only play limited roles.
- Baker - viable alternative but has plenty of downsides too. I would have picked him over gags as I have more confidence he will provide a strong contest.
- Arty - has had chances and let them slip, limited number of roles.
- Gardner, Coffield, Smith, Buss - can't play the same role.

Rightly or wrongly, Gags is seen as being able to play def, mid, fwd. He has pace. His tackling is okay. His ball use is average. Until Scott gets fit (which he might be now), or Kennedy/Jaques put pressure on, Gags is just about our best option for a 23rd player.

Good breakdown.
Am hoping Scott is ready for that chance, not that he is a star or anything, but I am confident he is a more complete AFL player than Gags at this stage.
I like to imagine a situation, 1min left, game is on the line, 1v1 ground ball, between the arcs. Who would I prefer competing for that.
