Why the **** does a goal umpire need to straddle the goal line on a dribbler if the ball can't be a score until it's fully crossed the line?

Standing adjacent to the post should deliver sufficient perspective to judge whether it's been touched, and then they still have a review if they need it. Putting the goal umpire into the field of play and limiting the goal face width is ****ing stupid.
