Re: Welcome to the Bulldogs: Bailey Smith
It was obvious 12 months ago that this is a brown paper bags play to smash out the coin. We are all over-thinking the reasons for this trade request. He simply wants a tonne of cash and is more than happy to get it under the table through his biggest off-field endorsement, which just happens to also be the major apparel naming rights sponsor of his destination club.
The media and his management are trying to run interference and play other angles about discontent being played out of position, wanting a fresh start, #CoAsTaLLiFesTyLe, yada yada yada.....but this is nothing more than a money play. And that's fair enough - it's up to the AFEL to make sure everything is done legit lol
If he was addicted to tortillas and had a multi-million dollar off-field endorsement with Mission, he'd be happy to play back pocket at the kennel for the rest of his career.

Re: Welcome to the Bulldogs: Bailey Smith
The other element which hasn't got a lot of airtime yet is his manager Connors' connection to the Cats, plus the fact that managers can get a far greater percentage of earnings from outside football earnings than from his footy salary, for example a percentage with Barry's (definitely not for teenage girls) alcopops. BS's footy salary won't be excessive, but a forensic accountant would have a field day finding everything else he's earning (and his manager is benefitting from).
The managers are bigger than the players.
I believe we have a pretty good working relationship with him and his team? Other agents like Pickering are more the old school bluff and bluster cowboy types - Connors seems to glide through with a minimum of fuss and just gets it done."Look at me mate. Look at me. I'm flyin'"Comment

Re: Welcome to the Bulldogs: Bailey Smith
Bailey is worth a whole lot more to Geelong than he is to us. Their trade offer needs to reflect that other wise we should stand firm & Bailey can go play for Richmond. Bailey walks into the draft & we lose a pick close to 20, while the cats lose Bailey Smith. They have far more to lose in this situation than we do & we need to play this hand accordingly. Its not hard, just takes some balls.Comment

Somewhere along the line the O' migrated from the commencement of the surname to its end then morphed into an s. Intriguing. That might be most interesting thing about the man.Comment
