Gardener down back as well. I honestly think they zoned off him so he was open to take possession and kick. He's come a long way but he's just an average player. Like you said, we've got too many like that and we're found out in times like this.

Re: WB Game Day V Geelong R12 2022

Well that was a lost opportunity. We butchered the ball so many times by foot. You can't we games when you do that.
They were cleaner in the last for sure.

That being said it seemed to me that every kick of ours under pressure went to an opponent and every one of theirs went to a team mate.

I thought the umpiring was poor - really poor. Why the high tackle to Richards was not paid down the ground , I'll never know.

Reality is we can play veey well and we can play very poorly in the same game. The problem is that when we are playing very well we don't nail our chances. Eg, opening minutes of the second half,English misses with a regulation snap, then Weightman hits the post. The McComb miss was a shocker.

We had a few passengers tonight too and you can't win big games with so many negatives coming together. We are going to have to beat them down at Geelong. That will be satisfying and I believe we can do it - we simply have to.

The fact we came out as limp as we did is on them. Another non top 4 finish.

Our defensive set up was pathetic - we allowed open lanes for Cameron to walk into.

We play Khamis as a second ruck/bench, while Naughton was getting owned and we never looked capable of taking a mark. If that was our plan, why didn't we just play Sweet?

This is garbage from a list supposed to be contending and the buck should be stopping with our coaching group.
My mate has permanent leg injury and says 'lame' not 'limp', no erectile prob's. Naughton was owned by DeKonig, didn't his dad play for Scray?

The standing off the mark is hot garbage as a tactic too. We guard space that isn't dangerous, invite the opposition to take territory and for what purpose? To cancel their run from behind and releasing of a handball? We give sides an extra 15m - they don't need run from behind when you hand it to them on a platter.

Might confuse sides who can't use the ball like North and West Coast, but when you give good sides and good players time AND space with the ball you're shooting yourself in the foot.

Imagine if sides stepped off and away from Dale and Daniel

No wonder we struggle to lock the ball in our forward half.

The ball was locked in our half for most of the 2nd quarter and all of the 3rd. They kicked 2 points in the 3rd quarter.

We failed to capitalise on our opportunities and their backline held up pretty well defending.

How dare you Matt Spangher is learning on the job and trying his best!
He had a great hug huddle going pre game if that's worth anything.
To be fair I've got nfi if he's any good but it would be nice to get some experience alongside Bevo from another system.

Khamis is a mile off it as well. He just needs time in the 2's to learn the game. He has no idea where and when to run.

Re: WB Game Day V Geelong R12 2022

Just back from the game. Such a frustraing night.

We came out from the start with intensity but missed chances. They made us pay with coast to coast gaols and from difficult conversions to rub salt into the wounds. We also then gifted them goals with school boy turnovers. Then they got momentum and we were on the back foot. The way Geelong play you don't want to give them a lead to defend.

Every time we play Geelong they also play the game on their terms. They concede the midfield numbers and contest to us. However, they defend the front of the stoppage well. They force us backwards and they always have players behind the ball. We need to force the play into a crowded Bulldogs forward line. When they get a turnover they are then off to the races and get easier looks when they get behind us.

Our inability to even halve contests in the air is a massive concern. They just schooled us all night. The part that hurt the most was so many uncontested marks where they just had numbers and better positioning.

Even with all of that ... if we took our chances like they take their chances we win. Cameron kicks them from everywhere. Angles, distances, pressure all result in goals. McComb after the play of the night misses from 30m out directly in front. Weightman misses a set shot from 20m with a regulation snap. Naughton misses a snap from 15m out. West can't make the distance with a set shot snap from 30m. How are we so bad at converting? We win the inside 50 count 57-48 and lose again.

Even with all those missed goals, we absolutely gifted them two goals from horrific school boy turnovers in our back 50m. They gave us nothing easy all night.

We are close. But we are a mile away. Just not good enough to get the job finished and have now lost to Carlton by 12, Geelong by 13, Crows by 1 and Port by 17. Even win two of those and we would be flying. But to lose all of them is just puts us in a difficult position.

                      We don't have anyone.

Gardner played majority of the game on Hawkins and kept him to two goals. One was due to a mistake by our backs and the other a joe the goose.

Cameron on the other hand killed us, and was too mobile for Keith

Schache would have been nice as another tall forward or back. And he kicks straight. That McComb miss was such a let down. Battled hard but such a poor 1st qtr.

Can someone explain to me, seeing as Cameron is not a pack mark rather a run to space player why our one of our backs do not play in front of him? Again Schache would have been a nice option as well as giving up having one of our bottom 6 short/vanilla players.

Gardner is not at league standard. He coughed up opportunites with regulation kicks gone bad with zero pressure. We don't have other options but when you compare who Geelong have in defence he doesn't stack up.

Excellent point TBB, seriously how we can move on a player like Lipinski for zip and give players like McComb a crack absolutely baffles me.
