Ranked at 79. Taken at 47. We were obviously concerned he’d go around that pick of ours.
I will never see #16 the same!!

Roarke finishes and Lachlan continues the Smith legacy of Rohan and Clay.

          From the internet:

          Lachlan Smith

          Ruck

          202cm, 97kg

Hitting form at the right time, the big ruck is at his best when he?s using his brutish frame to stand tall in the contest and offer an option long down the line or in forward 50.

Has a simple set shot-kicking routine which makes him a threat when he?s playing inside 50 but with his size and strength, expect to see his best football in the ruck at this level.

The 2023 preseason was his first full one with football, having come from a basketball background, reinforcing the clear upside.

Does that really make it a waste of a pick? A young ruckman, who we know generally take a few years to develop, so wouldn't be planning to play in the next couple of seasons anyway?

He only turned 18 last month and is already 202 cm and 101kg!

I’m still getting over the lose of sweet. We just don’t play them (ruck-men) no matter how well they are going or how bad we are playing.

I think we were always taking 4 picks.

                      Explainer:

We can take another kid at 58 if we move a rookie spot to the main list. Which we still can.

So the kid needs to be worth that. Plus the standard rookie salary isn?t included in our salary cap, but another main list kid would be. So the kid would need to be Houdini enough to take a $75,000+ hit to the salary cap.

So we could still be live, but we?d need to red hot on the kid. Then not have an SSP/live rookie draft pick too.

Build a bridge? English was the AA ruckman last season and played every game. If he got injured Sweet would?ve been his replacement, but given Sweet can?t play elsewhere on the ground so he didn?t get an opportunity.

That is the knock on him and went to water several times when was knocked around.

He went 39, not like we missed out on a top end guy.

Smith is more mobile than Sweet , seems to have some evasive skills too which is rare in a ruck, not a bad choice
Frejiah seems to have a bit of height and looks to go hard and be a good deliverer of the ball.
I like both choices . Would like to see us get an in and under mid though.
                                Bring back the biff
